If both parties agree well whilst I think it takes away from the fight it's OK. But if a mandatory want's it at the full limit and the WBC let the champion avoid the mandatory because he's a bigger draw it's a bit weak.

I guess the marketing people at Golden Boy have decided that another loss for Canelo would cripple him. He will drop the belt after Khan fight.

 

Virgil Hill is out there saying GGG wants no part of Ward, giving PR statements to his best friend about the fight. So Ward's team have given up totally on that fight. Carl Froch was apparently was offered a 172 lb catchweight, such a weight Ward could make after his move to 175.
GGG I believe is just playing a boxing politics game using catchweights as an excuse to finagle a belt. I'd be surprised if they are successful getting a belt for nothing. GGG and his fans are hypocrites though, we'll just have to see this play out.

Mandatory = 160. MW/SMW can be at whatever weight they want so long as it isn't for a belt.

 

Andre was never in a position to fight GG. He's only just fought Barrera after 9 months out.
