Hatton fans never say (certainly not on here) that Cortez was the reason he lost against Mayweather, just that he didn't ref the 2 fights consistantly when you watch Calzaghe-Hopkins a few weeks later.

No ones saying Cortez cost Hatton the fight though, just that all fight Hopkins was getting away with tactics that Hatton was getting warnings for.

I just want Calzaghe to get battered to show his nuthuggers that he isn't anywhere near approaching 'great'.

I said delusional Hatton fans , not HATTON FANS ............. as a general term , as i myself would be included in that bracket as many posters on here too , and i wasnt actually referring to ESB posters either when i said that i was merley pointing those deluded few who sing the Cortez song , or at least where at the time .

Hopkins imo got away with it because he was looking predominantly to rest on the inside not to actually fight on the inside , like Hatton was , the comparison's can go all day long but Hopkins wasnt doing anything illegal against Calzaghe and the way the fight turned out can in no way be blamed on Cortez .

One thing i will say is that there was a clear case for Cortez cutting Hatton a bad deal but i honestly thought Cortez done a job of Calzaghe Hopkins ............

Im not sure there's a LHW or SMW today who'd " batter Calzaghe " TBH ........... i give Ward the best chance out of them all including Dawson ............

That'd be Khan taking himself out of the mix with the other top Lightwelters for at least 2 more fights, plus maybe 1 more after that as another 'tune up', probably some handy mandatory.

I thought after Paulie he was supposed to start mixing it with the guys he apparently wasn't ducking.

probably the kahn fight beign made, but i can't see hopkins vs calzaghe being made in such a short time, if its true that would be pretty awsome tbh

Says more about todays division than Calzaghes 'brilliance'. Dawson would have the best chance IF Calzaghe has slipped.

Hopkins still has the technical nuance to show Joe up. I scored the first fight to Calzaghe btw, 114-113. I just don't buy into the hype; Calzaghe is not a top 5 alltime British fighter, let alone a top 100 of all time.

Sadly, B-Hops age appears to have finall caught up with him. Odd then, that Pavlik didn't cause him to throw himself on the floor. I think if he can constantly outmanouever someone he's okay, but as McGrain pointed out in a brilliant stylistic analysis on the Classic a few months back, Calzaghes awkward southpaw style caused Hopkins a lot of problems. He didn't allow Hopkins to set his left foot outside Calzaghes right foot, and therefore Hop couldn't get his shots off frequently. Couple that with Hopkins low punch output and hence why they both effectively cancelled each other out and led to, in some peoples eyes, a boring fight (I found it a riveting tactical chessmatch, but that's me I guess)

    John Conteh>>>>>>>>>Joe Calzaghe

I believe that opening statement to be a little harsh mate if im honest , in the mix as credible opponents for Joe presently would be :

    Froch , Kessler , Abraham , Bute , Pascal , Dawson , Dirrell & Ward

That is not a bad bunch .................... in comparison to any era , i know you'll probably go on and produce a list of fighters from the 40's now who have done this , this and this to ridicule that , but thats my opinion , if Calzaghe was to comeback i dont see any of them beating him barring Ward , and thats pretty big !!!!!!

BTW i agree i have watched Hopkins Calzaghe many a time and in no way shape or form found it boring !!!!!

Good post all round. And yes, there are some bloody good opponents out there, but I was only speaking in terms of light heavies. Dawson, Pascal, Cloud, Old B-Hop just isn't as strong as say Spinks, Qawi, Saad, Conteh.

What I'm saying is, Calzaghe would not have appeared as dominant as he (barely) appears now if he had fought in a stronger era. The one opponent he could've proved himself against was Jones back in the day. Never happened, not pointing the finger, but doesn't mean I give him a free pass and rate him as highly as other seem to do.I also feel hard done by that Conteh doesn't get the same amount of hype and love as Calzaghe seems to, yet was the better fighter (IMO of course :good)

When you have a hard disk with well over 1000 fights on, a good 40% of which you havn't got around to watching yet, putting Calzaghe-Hopkins on again is waaaaaay down the "to do" list....;O)

I can understand that. Hell, any Calzaghe fight for that matter.
