    Hey guys how's it going!

I've been boxing for about a year now at this local gym that trains pro mma fighters, pro boxers, and am boxers. I have had great sparring and learned a lot!

I know this is really early but I want to compete in the golden gloves in 2017. Unfortunately my gym already has a team that competes in it and they don't want more than 1 guy at each weight class.

Is there a way for me to enter without a certified coach? I was planning on having my dad or uncle in my corner because they are pretty knowledgeable on boxing.

Nope all coaches must be USA certified. Where do you live and how much do you weigh?

He can still compete without a coach though, I believe.

At StL gloves @ Heart of St. Charles, I've seen a dude show up without a corner, had to beg people to work it for him and managed to get it done.

True Jag but I was responding to his question about whether his non-certified family members could work his corner. He would need to win at a regional tournament to go on to nationals any way.

    Thanks guys for the replies!

I'll be in the sub novice category at 123 lbs so I don't think I can go to the national golden gloves

Weight class shouldn't be an issue. If there aren't any other people in your weight class, you get an automatic walkover.

They have a novice golden gloves and then regular golden gloves tournaments, novice has generally happened first from how they do things by me. I'm not sure if they do a national novice tournament but they definitely do regional.

    YOU ARE IN LUCK!!!!!

2017 is a ways off and USA Boxing recently made level 1 coaching available online. your family can register and get certified online, BUT they'll still need proof of cpr, and get back ground check as well. they need to take all that with them to the first show they attend where they will be issued a "passbook".

if you all wait until NOV to register for 2017, you will be able to compete for NOV and DEC also.

research if there's a website for your local LBC to find shows coming up.
