Golden Boy promotions will apply for a licence to promote fights in Great Britain and hope to add to their stock of British fighters. The American company, which promotes Amir Khan, is planning to sign up some of the fighters which represented Great Britain at the London Olympics. Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer told The Times: "We want to sign up some of those fighters who represented Britain at the Olympics. "It would not necessarily be those who won medals and we want those fighters with the right talent and charisma. "I will be spending a lot of time in the UK and I would personally take these fighters under my wing and nurture them, which is something I have not done before. "The idea will be to showcase them here in the US as well and we would put on four fights a year in the UK with them and four in the US. We would hope to stage our first show in the UK in the second quarter of 2013." http://www1.skysports.com/boxing/ne...g-to-strengthen-its-presence-in-Great-Britain Brilliant news considering how much enthusiasm for boxing there is in the UK, though not too many outlets (though I am happy with what boxnation has done) Hope it will lead to actual shows, promotions, fighters being helped to grow instead of just a theft of talent
This was on the cards in 2009 with Hatton acting as Oscars wingman in the UK, then they were going to move into mainland Europe & take on suarland & co. But Manny Pacquiao smashed those plans into dreamland:yep
Time will tell if it is a good move or not. Markets aren't always what they seem on the surface. Brit's do a good job of supporting their own but will they see GBP as an interloper and offer them less support? Hard to say until it happens.
make Floyd fight at Wembley just to make a statement. they have the Mula to make it happen. khan/brook winner, after one becomes champion.
