Why not? :huh Nothing revealed about his character over the years speaks to being above any self-serving abuse of power. It's as naive to assume that he doesn't to any degree at all as it is paranoid to assume he dips his fingers into absolutely everything.

Don't force me to start calling you 'Helmet' again :-(

Neither did enough. Jones was potential and a wild card in H2H situations for me, but he lacks the duration and resume to crack the top ten.

Tommy Hearns was not brilliant above 154lbs.

    Exactly!

Even back in the day, Ring Magazinez rankings were comprised of the opinions of just a few and sometimes just the author of the article.

Journalist today dont have any historical sense.

Boxing journalism is dead, and this ridiculous Ring Magazine ranking is exhibit A of it.

He "won" against Felix Sturm, and Sturm is at number 7

He lost to the number 1.

Theoritically, Hoya is between the number 1 and the number 7.

There are plenty of things in The Ring which he surely dislikes. Coverage of the Pacquiao/Mayweather negotiations have criticized GBP, their fighters aren't given unfair praise, there is no bias to them in the ratings, they aren't unfairly given The Ring titles. As far as I can see, The Ring has only changed because of the poor writers they've got at the moment.

Aside from that, why would De La Hoya care? Do people seriously think he gives a **** how Sturm is rated? It's not like any boxing fans look at that list and consider him a great fighter. They know he's not and they know De La Hoya lost to him. Why would Oscar mind about that though? He wasn't a middleweight and him losing there doesn't affect his record or his legacy, just like Duran losing at middleweight doesn't affect his too much.

Look at the high ranking of Abraham. That shows the writer has a limited amount of boxing knowledge and/or bias towards modern fighters. If he ranks Abraham so high, you can see why he'd think Sturm deserves to be ranked so high. The list is flawed from the top to bottom though, so I hardly think the inclusion of Sturm is some manipulative move to boost De La Hoya's legacy.

I think it's too easy to look at this list and assume DLH is behind it. It's just a **** list, from a **** journalist. Nobody will take it seriously.

You managed to reply to me without making a fool of yourself by mentioning my point about padwork? I'm impressed with your learning ability. It only took you, what, a year?

With B-Hop, Monzon and Hagler ranking so high it is obvious that this list is based on accomplishments at middleweight and number of title defenses not head to head. I don't know about Sturm with his being a titleholder in name only over the years as he has never fought the lineal middleweight champion.

oscar doesn't but schafer 100% does, he was the one that fired most the staff and moved it to la.but i doubt he would be bothered influencing something like this, this list has more to do with a bad journalist and micheal rosenthal sucking at his job as editor.since mike took over the magazine has been slipping and the rankings are more and more :huh
