He grew up on the be or be killed streets of the mean parts of Poland, which left him a mental wreak for a long period of his career. Contrary to popular belief he wasn't a random headcase. I'd imagine fighting others with knives at the age of 15 for your life and seeing friends die at said age would leave most with a nice case of PTSD.

Anyhow, Golota would undoubtably had two wins over Riddick Bowe.

He cold have finished off Michael Grant, derailing the Grant hype train before Lennox.

Post car accident (Where his arm was ****ed, his jab, maybe his best attribute, was never the same again.) he could have handily beat Byrd and Ruiz, whom many felt he beat regardless.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't fancy his chances against either Tyson or Lennox regardless, Golota always needed time to get himself going. But regardless, losses to two ATG's wouldn't ruin the man as a fighter. Lennox could start very fast, and Tyson was always looking for a early knockout. Bad news for Golota.

He'd very likely be seen in a similar light as Wladimir Klitschko, a borderline ATG.

I'm of the train of thought that a prepared Golota would beat the ever loving **** out of Vitali in the years leading up to his "retirement". IF Golota had his **** together that is.

Absolute suicide to pull straight back from a big guy with skills like Golota, with a great jab and right hand.

    Anyhoo, thoughts?

I agree, Golota had good skills, and one of the better euro boxers, but his shortcomings are like saying, imagine if this guy had more power, or a better chin or better discipline. Theres a lot of examples like that in boxing, and thats what makes the greats truly great.

Good point lefthook31!:happy If Golota had the concentration he would've beaten Bowe and would be ranked higher. Things like focus or heart can't really be taught to you in boxing ya either have it or you don't.

There are some good points, but also a lot of " coulda, woulda, shoulda's. " Golata is one of many heavyweights that will always be remembered for galant losing efforts, or having potential that went unfulfilled.. But, I don't think that he had it in him to be a truly great fighter.

I think Golota was decent, big, but he was a bit straight up, mechanical, lacking in defense and much of fighting brain either. Lets say if he wanted an easier end to the fight, he didnt have to go through life and death to beat Bowe, he could have looked to box and move, be defensive, but he didnt have the variation. He was never going to be a great fighter

90% of this entire board is discussing hypoethical "coulda, woulda, shoulda's."

You mean if his head was on straight? The guy was and probably still is a mental case. Can you for a minute fathom the depths of his psyche and figure out why, after outboxing, outfighting and basically dominating a guy like Riddick Bowe as he was doing, and knowing (surely he knew) that if a ko wasn't forthcoming, then at least he was going to capture a very emphatic points victory...and then on to what that would buy him careerwise....and then the brilliant idea comes into his head.."hit him in the nuts"..again and again. Then, in other fights he would freeze when confronted by superior artillery, as in Lennox Lewis, and get embalmed..I don't know about the Tyson fight..maybe it was just as it seemed..that Tyson was just too much for him..but I suspect his monumental confidence problem surfaced, which negated any and all of the massive talents and the advantage inherent in his massive size and reach..I mean, the guy had all kinds of ability, as he proved with Bowe both times....I don't know..maybe with a head transplant with a more stable mentality he would have gone on to capture a title..concentration, control, focus...maybe if he had channeled Gene Tunney..if he had that kind of discipline..he certainly would have gone on to bigger and better things..ultimately it's not a given that even all that would have given him a shot at upsetting either Klitschko brother, but his career should have been and could have been far better.

good post:good i have to agree with powerpuncher though, he did have his faults, aside from not having his **** together. he was mechanical, slow of foot, and didn't move his head enough. his career peaked for two fights (which is double what bowe's career peaked at i guess) but it wasn't too hard to look good against that version of riddick. overall i don't think golota would be THAT much higher overall: his other flaws would be exploited regardless

I think Golata was a steroid popping bully thug. He did not win one major fight. From Bowe twice to Michael Grant to Lewis to Brewster to Tyson he managed to lose everyone decisively. He was a loser, period.

Give Bowe a little credit, Golota didnt just decide, hey nows a good time to hit him in the nuts, :yephe did it because Bowe wouldnt go down and kept coming forward throwing punches.

I wasn't trying to be a jagoff. Just basically calling the guy as I see him.
