Golota mentally broke against power punchers, but Botha was more of a speed puncher than a power puncher. Hence I think Golota does relatively well in this one and wins. That said, you would be pretty cautious about wagering much on him because you never know with a head case.

I like Botha for the upset of sorts here. That sneaky 1-2 he threw would land time and time again against that defense. Then, he ties the guy up. Wash rinse repeat. And Golata would not change anything 1 iota and get tagged all night long.

Decision bout and close on the cards, but probably an if only type fight for Andrew.

Golota WAS definitely second tier. No way was he ever beating anyone of the first tier of Lewis, Tyson and Holyfield or a much better version of Bowe.

its questionable if Golota even beats any of the second tier guys like Ruddock, mercer, Morrison, moorer, Bruno or even Botha

Answer a simple question, would Golota beat Tyson, Lewis or Holyfield?

    If Yes, please justify

if No, that means Golota was NOT a first tier heavy of the 90s

At their best, I'd go with Golota. On an average night, I'd pick Botha.

Botha wasn't top ten material. He was more like fringe contender, but his intangibles, toughness, and durability could for Golota to quit or DQ himself.

    Really ?

    He bit Samson P'ua

What about the deliberate blatant headbutt against Nicholson ?

Golata 's status comes from his Polish Fanbase, nothing more or less, I don't have a problem with nationial pride but the guy NEVER beat anybody worth a lick. Fact. Could have would have dont count...........he either fouled out ,flat out quit or accepted defeat after a couple of rounds and went thru the motions, whenever taking on a upper level fighter he failed. Fact.

    Precisely.

But that's the interesting thing w/ boxers and especially the heavyweights----folks will defend and go down with a sinking ship defending the if only and underachievers. By the same token, the over achievers--like a Botha--are never given much credit.

As for these 2 guys, just who would be Andrews biggest scalp? Who'd he actually defeat?

Golota was close to being floored and possibly out, then he bit Samson PouUa, and got a break.

Golota was well ahead of a solid Nicholson, but for some reason head butted him, which lead to the the stoppage win.

He won both of those fights and those guys werent any worse than Botha. Hell, who did Botha ever beat? The bottom line is that the only guys who really beat Golota were guys that could intimidate him and that includes Michael Grant who was the hottest thing on the market and the media's darling at the time of that fight. Botha has nothing thats going to intimidate Golota. He isnt a big puncher, doesnt have the highest work rate, isnt overly strong, doesnt have the greatest stamina, and can have his chin dented. Hes tough and determined but so was John Ruiz (who had many of the same characteristics as Botha) and a passed his prime Golota whipped his ass (regardless of the decision). Golota may not have had the mental toughness of Botha but he wouldnt have needed it. He was just better all the way around and that would be enough.
