Adamek did what he had to do. But lets be frank..the guy was a walking punch bag, hardly threw any punches and looks totally disinterested.
When Galota was switched on and focused he was a beast, seeing him get screwed over v Ruiz was ****ed.
He may have been a punching bag, but I don't believe it was from a lack of trying. Golota came to this fight to win! I have no doubts about that. He's just old and slow and his reflexes are shot. He never pulled the trigger on the right hand as often as he should have. I don't think he was disinterested, I just think he was outslicked by a better, younger fighter. To say Adamek just beat up a punching bag is a disservice to the extremely smart fight Adamek fought. Adamek was moving away from Golota and luring him into traps the entire fight. THAT IS NOT ADAMEK'S USUAL STYLE. Adamek's a lot more versatile than many seem to realize. He has his limitations, no doubt, but he's not as limited as many believe. He was moving back and setting traps brilliantly. Take away the first round knockout losses. Nobody EVER outboxed Golota the way Adamek did. Yeah, he's old and slow, so perspective is imperative. But still... I was impressed. He was actually hurting Golota. Although Golota's punch resistence has greatly diminished in recent years, he's still got a decent beard. Adamek was accurate and powerful. One could not have scripted his heavyweight debut any better.
Never been a fan of his. He always choked, fouled excessively and lost to a lot of B fighters. He was never an A class fighter and each time he stepped into the A class he either got destroyed or self destructed. I mean he never had any career wins. No one of his stature should have ever got so many title fights. Even through all of that he retained fans somehow.
He was definitely screwed against Ruiz. That 2 judges gave Ruiz NINE ****ing rounds in that fight is borderline criminal. He was also screwed against Byrd. I had him and Ruiz six rounds apiece, which with the knockdowns and the foul came out to 114-111 Golota. I had him beating Byrd 116-112.
Golota may never have been an A level fighter but he was most certainly an A level talent. He had his share of failures, no doubt. But I think redemption was served in his impressive efforts against Byrd and Ruiz when he was well past his best. Golota was an exciting fighter with a lot of talent. :smoke
Fair play. Personal opinion etc but in my opinion golota was past shot! He was there for the taking early on.
