Just rewatched Bowe/Golota 2. Definitely one of the most underrated heavyweight fights in history. I have to give credit to bowe for showing tons of heart in this fight since he was legally mugged in the ring. Bowe got damaged from this fight, his corner should have stopped it. Terrible commentating, they must have called this fight for Golota 10 times
WellGolota had a lot to do with it, but holyfield and bowes work ethic get mention too in the story of his demise.
I guess you mean back in the Olympics, right :huh Or are you speaking of Bowe throwing the title in the trash in fear of fighting Lennox?
Yep, Bowe got what he asked for. He showed not one penny of repect for Golota. I clearly remember Bowe hitting Golota in the back of the head in the first fight.
And gave it back. Bowe was often a dirty fighter himself and had his usual array on show in this fight - low blows, hitting & holding, rabbit punches and hits to the back of the head. In Golota, Bowe finally came up against an opponent just as big, rough and strong as he was.
The Holyfield wars & too many drastic weight fluctuations between fights killed bowe. You could tell by his lack of balance in the second Golota fight. .... just like Vargas.
I believe it were those 3 fights with Holyfield that ruined him, he just put too much too early and had nothing left despite being young. Legendary Nights: Golota/Bowe should be a good source to explain it. The Golota fight did ruin him even more because of Golota's cheating tactics, punching behind the head, low blows, elbows, headbutts...etc but he was already shot before meeting Golota the first time. Must also give Golota credit for completely destroying Bowe but then again you can't really give credit to a nutcase like Golota.
Golota ruined Bowe in the first fight. He finished the job in the second. Bowe didnt start to sound punch drunk until after the first fight with Golota.
Bowe ruined Bowe; a lack of dedication no matter how good you are (and Riddick was darn good) will cost you in the Greatest sport in the world.
Bowes problem with the refridgerator and his lack of discipline wrecked his career. He beat himself......... But when all said and done he only lost one pro fight .. To Evander in 1993.
