You've conviniently overlooked his two surprising performances against Byrd and Ruiz, title fights most feel he should have won. Aside from this, people generally buy into Golota not because of his winning accomplishments but because of his past antics, his roller coaster fights and what many feel is his unrealized potential.

izolnier- yes, but that fights were three years ago. since then he has declined dramatically. watch the fight against brewster and bates. he looked like he forgot everything. he is on a slide downwards with retirement on the bottom.

Hey guys, read the article closely...it says it hasnt been approved by WBC and it also states

"Behind the scenes Sunday, at least one close associate of WBC president Jose Sulaiman told ESPN.com that he was trying to persuade Sulaiman not to approve Golota fighting for the interim title. The reasons: Golota is unranked by the organization, he has been inactive and several more credible fighters have expressed interest in facing Peter on short notice, including former titlists Oliver McCall -- who is ranked third by the WBC -- and John Ruiz, who outpointed Golota in a November 2004 title bout."

I don't see how this fight can happen for the belt if he isnt ranked by the WBC and someone who is close to the WBC president doesn't see any sense in Golata getting this opportunity like the rest of us

The Bates fight was tough to gauge because that was his very first comeback fight after years of inactivity. It's entirely possible he was simply shaking off ring rust. I would say take that fight at face value and look at the end result - a 2nd Rd. KO, which is exactly what he was supposed to do. If you are not satisfied with that, consider that during his second round, Golota's game did actually appear to be much better, including movement and defense as well as using the jab to set up the other punches.

This is similar to what happened prior to Golota vs. Byrd years ago, since Golota was not ranked as well. In my opinion, because of the agreements already made by DKP, Duva, and Showtime, the WBC sanctioning is a mere formality and as always will cave in because of the pressure.

Golata has a rep,a dubious one,but a rep just the same.He is also promoted by King. The fight deserves to go on for Peter's sake.McCall is more deserving but since when has the WBC or any of the organisations taken that into account.:deal

McCall already said he wants to fight, so if Peter wants an interim title fight he should fight McCall. Otherwise he should just have a regular fight with Golota, but not for the interim belt.

What's wrong with Peter? he wants to become champion by fighting B-level boxers? The opportunity with McCall is great in every sense.

I hope the WBC rules this way.

Not only is McCall already in training, it's also a fight that he can easily drop like a hot potato so long as he drops his WBC International belt...and I think this would be one occasion where even the WBC would agree with that!

Gomez will be pissed off, but hey - a chance to become a two-time WBC champ is surely too much for McCall to pass up on.

You're exactly right. Showtime aint gonna sign off unless it's an American with a name. Pray the WBC has some common sense and does not give into DK :yep

Who I really feel for is Maskaev. The guy is getting screwed out of millions mostly due to unfortunate circumstances. He coulda fought Wlad at MSG last Nov, then fights some no name in december, and finally loses a huge payday against VK. Right or wrong, its been 13 months since he won the title and he should probably be stripped. Peter deserves his shot now.

Exactly right. Golota performed quite well against Byrd and Ruiz but got blown out by Lennox and Brewster. Notice a trend here. He did ok against non-punchers but got taken out by strong heavy-handed boxers. I dont think Golota knows how to handle pressure. Peter falls in with the second group. Peter is no Ali, but u have to give credit where credit is due and say he has a great chin, heavy hands, heart, and a relentless style when in shape. He should come right after Andrew. Peter TKO 1-2.

Yes, I noticed how big a puncher Brewster is in his last fight.

Damn, I make DVD highlight collections and I had all of Golota's collapses on one disc.

Now I may have to re-do it when he has another one against Peter.

What does that say about Golota then :nut Seriously though,
a great jab will do that to a one dimensional fghter even though it's Wald.

It's more styles than anything else. Byrd and Ruiz were more defensive while Brewster and Lewis came right after him. I hope its a great fight but Im wouldnt hold my breath
