Looks like both will be 170+ when they hit the ring. So we have a career welterweight fighting a career midlewieght for the middleweight title at light-heavyweight weight. Boxing is so weird..
And it has been this way for quite some time. Even with same day weigh-ins some Middleweights were close to the then Cruiserweight limit of 190lbs when entering the ring. It happens at every weightclass.
It's not out of the ordinary for fighters to blow up in weight come fight night. Just some fighters abuse/blow up there bodies more than others (ex: Canelo, Chavez Jr....)
Its surprising for somebody who makes 147 to gain 10lbs after weighing in at 160. I expected GGG to, but not brook. This just goes to show brook has had do a decent weight cut to make this fight, how on earth was he making 147? no wonder he looked ill at 147,I could understand if kell looked a little drained yesterday but he not at all. I expect him to look huge when he gets in the ring.
How is this NOT a competitive fight? Both the same weight, and both are RIPPED. It's not like Kell but on weight like Khan. Kell is pure muscle, khan had fat.
When you see pics of kell at 147 he really does look unhealthy. If he loses tonight I expect him to return at 154. Fans will say he is ducking Spence by giving up the belt but nah just look at the size of kell. Boiling down to 147 again is stupid.
it wont happen but I'd love to see the governing bodies stop this altogether - make em weigh in 2 months out from a fight and maybe random checks through the year and not allow more than 10lbs cut from their walk around weight. Would be better for all the fighters health and safety as they would then have a level playing field...even though most fighters would have to move up a weight class or 2.
Another interesting point is that brook was clearly absolutely killing him self to make 147, he looked like death and has still managed to perform. His body has become accustom to performing under such awful conditions, its like training at high altitude when its time to fight at normal altitude its much much easier, brook is used to fighting while his body is in dam near starvation mode, The physical and mental drain that would have is tremendous, This time hes going into a fight fully replenished healthy and strong both physically and mentally. This **** is going to be ****ing interesting.
It was Kell Brooks choice to move up... No one put a gun to his head and forced him to do it. He is aware of the risks. Weighing in 2 months before also won't do anything. They'll just lose the weigh for the 2 month weigh in..
lol - no way is Brook going to be 168 - this is utter nonseNSE. ggg WILL COME IN MINIMUM 15pounds heavier.
I agree completely. Given Kell's comments about feeling so much better and healthier at 160, along with the fact he is the IBF champion at 147 -- meaning that, under the IBF rules, he can weigh no more than 157 at the IBF-mandated weigh-in on the day of the fight while he is the holder of their world title at Welterweight -- stepping up to 154 after facing Golovkin is the obvious move for Brook. Brook vs Canelo at 154, anyone?
Because Kell up until this point has been fighting welterweights? When a fighter moves up a weight class you don't expect their ranking to stay the same in the new weight class. It drops. Their punches becomes less effective against larger guys. Their strength, corral tactics, height and reach advantages. all diminished.
