    Basically...

Cotto owes Golovkin 800,000 dollars, which was the step-aside fee so Cotto could fight Canelo. Well, since Cotto was stripped he feels he doesn't have to pay Golovkin anymore. WBC states their outside this matter, and that the only money Cotto owed them was the sanctioning fee. The step-aside was a whole other matter.

Golovkin says Cotto still owes him 800,000. Cotto is refusing, so apparently they will fight this in court via Steve Kim.

    Who wins? :bbb

I wish Golovkin could resolve this in the ring. Gloves and ref are not needed.

Golovkin probably wins because he already stepped aside and would have been full champion already if Cotto didn't pull this stunt.
Now he gets left in the cold again and doesn't have anything to show for it.

But maybe he won't awarded the full 800.000 because now Cotto is stripped.

I guess it depends when it was agreed. But WBC says the fee is outside them, so

Cotto and Golovkin made this step-aside agreement before Cotto was stripped and before the fight was made. WBC said they weren't taking any of the 800,000, so it should get interesting. Closest we will ever come to see them fight ha.

Cotto is basically trying to scam GGG out of his money. Which is disgraceful considering he will make $20 million fighting Canelo! Greedy SOB!

If Golovkin doesn't get the money shouldn't he get the title? Letting Canelo have a shot at it while Golovkin gets robbed of the step aside money seems wrong. WBC gonna WBC though.

Who knows, it basically depends on the judge. I bet this is one of those cases that they make up as they go along. Either the judge will say/reason that because Cotto no longer had the belt and there is nothing specific regarding that scenario he doesn't owe anything, or that because the step aside was granted in good faith that Cotto would keep the belt and pay the fee that he still has to pay. All I know is, finally GG is being made to fight for something, though, I'm not shocked he's fighting for a handout.

If the money hadn't reached Golovkin already, it was because the agreement was to pay Golovkin 800k to not block Cotto from defending his middleweight title against Canelo Alvarez.

Since Cotto will not be defending the middleweight title against Canelo, he's not going to owe Golokin anything.

At the time of the agreement, the middleweight title was under Cotto's control. Once it was stripped by the WBC for not paying sanctioning fees, it then becomes under the control of the WBC.

The step aside money was because Cotto was granting Canelo a shot at his title when it was rightfully Golovkin's turn at it.
Since it isn't Cotto's title to lose anymore, he's not going to be lawfully obligated to pay Golovkin step aside money.

Its the WBC who's letting the title be at stake for Canelo, that's not Cotto's doing. If Golovkin wants to sue somebody over it, he should be sueing the WBC who's letting the middleweight title be at stake for Canelo.
