Yep. Why would you let an Asian guy whose country isn't even heard in US be your champ when you can have a Mexican champ with millions of fanbase, right? That's how It works in WBC's greedy, corrupt world these days.

Nope, it's Cotto and his team's fault.

GGG was the MANDATORY for the WBC Belt, Cotto asked that GGG step aside and be compensated monetarily. The WBC agreed, with it once all parties involved (Roc Nation, Cotto Promotions, K2, Golden Boy) agreed.

The WBC is the umbrella that the promoters and fighters shade themselves with.

Cotto made a legal obligation, as the WBC Champion at that time, to pay GGG / K2 to allot him the opportunity to fight Alvarez, with the understanding that the Cotto vs Alvarez winner would face GGG.

Just because Cotto was stripped of the WBC Championship is not a viable excuse not to honor his legal obligation to pay GGG.

K2 and GGG were grossly misrepresented by Cotto and his team into thinking that they were being financially compensated for allowing Alvarez to be the opponent.

This is true. The belt would then rightfully go to GGG instead of being vacated. Canelo doesn't have a right to the belt until he fights GGG. By giving Canelo a chance to win the belt off Cotto, they are ignoring their own rules. It's like they just make this **** up as they go. The key is that if you pay them you get a belt or a chance at one, like Canelo paid fees. The belt system is so corrupt.

He's going to pay the step aside money... only thing he had a problem with was the 300k that was supposed to be paid to the wbc for a sanction fee. What he had offered the wbc was 130k rather then the 300k which is why the wbc stripped him. It has nothing to do with paying GGG the 800k Step aside money which was already agreed to. So i think you got it twisted.

I am not positive on any of this but I believe abuffy got it right. From my current understanding Cotto is indeed trying to apparently side step the entire sum of fees and the allegedly owed step aside money.

I think abuffy is a solid contributor to the forums (even if i am still baffled by her apparent unwavering faith when it comes to the word of corrupt sanctioning bodies).

Although I would add that Cotto "allegedly" owes the money. None of us are privy to the details where we can say with absolute certainty whether or not he does.

Not a lawyer but I've bought houses before and there are contingencies that protect buyer/seller, and thank god for them contingencies. Always a back out clause for those so inclined.

You think so? Honestly what i get from cotto on his interviews this week about it is that he bailed on the sanctioning fees.. but what he said about keeping 1.1 million in the bank account could mean that hes trying to dupe GGG on the money.. Could be a motive to get back at the WBC for stripping him, but i do think that Cotto pays the 800k to GGG. It wont even go to court imo..

He owed him a fight, but his ballz are not big enough, so he bought a pass, but then cheated.
