A nice article by Frank Lotierzo worth reading here folks: http://www.thesweetscience.com/feature-articles/28238-golovkin-shows-supreme-power-versus-brook Frank has been considered by some boxing insiders to be one of the sport’s best fight analysts. His work has appeared in Fight Game, Boxing Illustrated, and Uppercut magazine. Prior to his career as a writer, he hosted Toe-To-Toe on ESPN Radio and trained at Joe Frazier's Gym in Philadelphia under the tutelage of the legendary George Benton. Between 1977 and 1982, he had over 50 fights as an amateur and pro in the middleweight division.
A pretty darn good analysis that From the article : "Gennady had him where he wanted and was unloading without the worriment of anything Brook was attempting to send back his way. And in the hours that have passed since the fight, I’ve heard some say that Golovkin showed some weaknesses and vulnerabilities that should make Canelo Alvarez more willing to fight him. And to that I say “are you nuts?” "If anything Alvarez has more reason to delay the fight than he did this time last week. Everybody wants to knock Brook for fighting the wrong fight, but what they fail to grasp is that when a wrecking machine is coming at you, it’s not possible to be deliberate and measured. Brook, who showed up to fight and win, had no choice by the time the bout ended because he was being swallowed and engulfed by Golovkin’s aggression and power".
I follow Frank's articles and find him the best previewer and reviewer of fights on the scene, also he's a solid historian. The only other journalist on par with him for breaking down fighters and fights would be Graham Houston from Boxing Monthly magazine.
A fine one he done before the Fury-Klitschko cancellation in July. http://www.thesweetscience.com/feat...schko-must-reinvent-himself-and-be-aggressive
great !!! very interested in the rematch as I was puzzled by the outcome of the first I will read this tomorrow as Its getting late on the east coast thanks Robbi
I don't agree with this article. Golovkin is being highly underrated here in regards to his boxing ability. Golovkin has repeatedly demonstrated sublime ring cutting ability, punch selection/placement, super sneaky defense, and rock solid footwork. Make no mistake about it. Golovkin is an ELITE BOXER (amateur and boxing career is proof positive) and Brook cannot outbox Golovkin. He's not an Andy Lee that gets bailed out by his power. His power ENDS fights, but doesn't save him. Golovkin said from the get go that he didn't want to box with Brook and that he was going to make it a street fight. Golovkin is a very cerebral boxer and he knows that his reputation and the fear it instills in his opponents are big contributors to his success. Golovkin BOXING Brook cautiously (he's a fighting a welterweight!) would have damaged his reputation. Can you imagine if Kovalev fought a middleweight and boxed cautiously instead of gunning for the KO? Krusher would no longer be a suitable nickname!
I did. I am in complete disagreement that Brook would have have easily outboxed Golovkin had Golovkin given him room to try.
This is sport on. Canelo is patient and likes to pick his spots in bursts. Move away - rince n repeat. Good luck with that against Golovkin.
Lemmie cut you off there, he actually didn't, ever. He said he was ready for 12 rounds if it came to it and he said he was ready for street fight if it came down to it. Well , he had to go street fight because his boxing just wasn't good enough.
