Pretty impressive considering the time and nobody (apparently) had heard of Kell Brook. Boxing is supposed to be a dying sport and UFC is where it's at but 850 buys would put it close the top 10 PPV all time UFC list.
The problem is HBO don't have the budget to put all these fights on HBO. Some have to be PPV simply because HBO's boxing budget has been cut.
I always think that anything over a mil is good numbers. At its peak that's even better. Womens soccer did 750k during the Olympics. For women's soccer that is good. GG Brook live did 850,000 or whatever the numbers were and did a couple thousand more than Cuadras Gonzalez live but Cuadras Gonzalez peaked higher than GG Brook. In other words 850k is not bad but it's not good either but the peak is what helped the viewership as that reached 900,000 k for both fights. Chocolatito actually peaked higher than GG. But afternoon and evening viewership are different.
The GGG fight was showing at 4:30/5pm CT. That is a weird time because it's in the middle of a lot of family related stuff going on during a Saturday. It's hard to get a kitchen pass at that time to sit on the couch and drink a hurricane.
Good numbers, all things considered. The early showing of Golovkin slightly outdrew the better time slot Chocolatito had, and the prime time ratings of Ward-Brand (743k). We also don't know how many of his evening viewers were repeats or unique. If you assume zero were repeat viewers, it's 1.43 million. If you take 100k of that as repeats, his numbers are in line at 1.3 mil. Considering HBO didn't have to foot much of the bill on this one, they'll be happy.
LOL It was FREE, on HBO. It doesn't surprise me that you woul make such a ridiculous comment. Many of his Stans say absurd shet like that. He is also an ATG according to his stans, would KO Hagler, is the best MW ever, would beat anyone between 154-175, would KO HWs, is as skilled as SRR, hits as hard as Tyson. Now he's the PPV king for having a mere 843K Viewers on HBO. Canelo-Kirkland did 2.1 million just for your FYI
Well they banked on the viewership in the United Kingdom, and not the US. The United Kingdom is like 5-6 hours ahead of us I believe. It's weird to us and normal to them.
Yeah but Ward Barrera was prime time television. You're comparing afternoon and evening on a Saturday.
