    Golovkin
    5 foot 10 1/2 inches
    70 inch reach
    165-170? pounds fight night weight
    33 years old

    Canelo
    5 foot 9 inches
    70 1/2 inch reach
Up to 174 pounds on fight night weight
    24 years old

Basically, Canelo is the same size as Golovkin is. GGG is slightly taller, and Canelo has slightly longer reach and weighs slightly more on fight night, it seems.

I hope this fight happens at some point. Canelo isn't the most skilled fighter in the world but he can punch. Golovkin also comes to brawl. This could be a more skilled version of Canelo vs Kirkland.

I think this is a great fight. If anything the fight could have happened years ago. Canelo has been sucking weight for too long and should have fought Martinez instead of Mayweather.

Canelo has 3 main physical limitations: his height, not conducive for higher weights, his counterpuncher style: not conducive for his height, and his age. At his age, 24, his prime will be significantly reduced by fighting warriors like Golovkin.

I think Delahoya is aware that Canelo is his cash cow and he does not want to squander his youth away. It is also a critical moment for GBP after losing half of his fighters to his competition and with PBC boxing on the rise.

Despite all that I really do want to see the fight. I think such a fight would solidify in mind and the mind of others that Golovkin is the next heir apparent to p4p number 1. Although I'm still uncertain who would win between Golovkin and Ward.

It will happen as soon as GGG starts showing serious signs of decline. Not one day before then.

Quite right. The 155 lb division has a rich and illustrious history after all.

When was the last time that Golovkin fought at a weight limit below 160 pounds?

    Never?

    Cool.

(that said, hard to call Alvarez anything other than a Middleweight being that his last three fights have been at 155 pounds)

The dude is fighting at JMW in a non title fight there is no real penalty for coming in .5 or 1lb over. He probably moves up next anyway but Alvarez is on record that if he had a title shot he'd come in at 154. Either way Canelo > GGG when they fight.

    So do I.

I can understand if ODLH wants to hold off on it and keep the cash cow raking in the money, though.

You don't think GGG is more skilled than Kirkland? Come on.

He does if he plans on growing into and eventually fighting at 168.

But for now, no, not short arms. Not long ones, but no TRex arms.
