I'm pretty new to boxing, was a casual fan up until 2014.
So lets get this straight. GGG ducked Ward. GGG was willing to fight Froch and Chavez at 168. He apparently is willing to fight Degale at 168. For Ward his team clearly said ""164 for Ward". This is a clear duck.

Ok so the duck has been established. I really don't see what the big deal is. Say GGG beats Canelo. Will boxing fans hold the Ward duck over his head? I don't think so. If GGG eventually moves up to 168 and beats Degale will the Ward duck matter then? I believe only to the core Golovkin haters (and there is a substantial amount of GGG haters). The same way that Pac and Floyd have their core group of fans and haters,I believe the same can be said of Golovkin. I bet if GGG fought Ward in 2 years from now and he won the GGG haters would find a way to put salt on that win (Ward was past prime, etc).

My point is this: how much value does a fighter lose for avoiding a SINGLE competitor? How about TWO? Or THREE? GGG haters make it sound like Golovkin is ducking everyone. Whereas up to now the only fighter that Golovkin has likely ducked is Ward. And even this not 100 percent as Ward had long lay offs due to promotional issues, injuries, etc. Ward is also guilty of name dropping GGG to keep himself relevant.

Even though Golovkin was willing to fight everyone at 168 except Ward I dont consider it a duck. Unlike Golov****s and other floyd haters, I dont have a double standard, and try to be objective. Think about it this way, if Floyd was willing to fight Saunders, Lemieux, or whoever for the belt at 160 by jumping 2 weight classes, but not Golovkin, what would the white power/pro eu/floyd haters be saying? We all know.

And no, Golovkin hasn't ducked anyone, nor has he been duck to the extent by people who consistently fight at the full 160 pounds that his resume would be that much better. Saunders/Quillin/Jacobs/ducked want no part of him, but even with those 3 on his resume he's nowhere near the hype he's receiving right now, or anywhere close to being a hof.

in reality he wont lose value...because he has a loyal legion of fans(these are not boxing fans though) and hbo is pumping him and wont say a bad word about him......ggg pretty much has a free pass

in real boxing fans eyes though....its kinda sad....if he fights degale i wont look at him the same.....you cant have people go around talking about him the way they do....and him saying some of the things he said and just give him a pass ......"well maybe its possible in 2017" loeffler said....they want no part.....and if ward beats kova theyll want even less part in the future

if ggg fought ward two years from now(barring some disaster for ward before that) id give him full credit.....and probably alot of props....but it wont happen....

i wouldnt say boo about ggg ducking ward if it wasnt for

    a. sanchez running his mouth saying ward was ducking
    b. them saying "anyone from blah blah to blah blah"
    c. ggg fans saying hes the greatest thing theyve ever seen but giving him a pass for not proving it while demanding more proven fighters prove their greatness
    d. ggg fans still insisting he smashes ward despite clear duck of him

thats always been my point...imagine floyd going to 160 and trying to make all these fights but refusing to fight ggg......if floyd had been a career 154 fighter...omg the outrage that would ensue...this forum would crash

    shockmaster,

"c. ggg fans saying hes the greatest thing theyve ever seen but giving him a pass for not proving it while demanding more proven fighters prove their greatness
    d. ggg fans still insisting he smashes ward despite clear duck of him"

But can we really impute the quotes of deranged boxing fans to a boxer?? You and I both know that boxing fans, and sport fans for that matter, are OUT OF THEIR MINDS lol.

The whole 154-168 thing I get it. Makes them look bad now. But only core boxing fans will reference this statement. The casuals could care less. They wanna see GGG KO people.

listen...i dont hate ggg...i think hes VERY good....I as a boxing fan would like to know/see how good....

i already think ward beats him....so if they fought..and ggg lost? i wouldnt say much....and id give him props for taking it....

the reality is most of his "fans" are/were pac fans...they saw that all come crashing down....they were obnoxious and now they are even worse...

ggg is 33 and his resume has nothing on it of note.....if he were somebody else hed be the most ridiculed fighter in the world

The way I would see it the smaller man has the choice of who to fight in the bigger division. If Ward, being a smaller LHW choses to fight Adonis Stevenson and Fonfara, that's his prerogative no? If Ward beat Stevenson and Fonfara, Ward would get credit. He obviously wouldn't get as much credit as beating the Kovalev the top dog at 175 but he would still get credit. Just saying theres a difference beating on scrubs the next division up verses the top 5 fighters.

No he wont, the pro eu/white power fans would give him no credit at all if he doesn't fight anyone but Kovalev.

ward is going for the top dog in kovalev....fat dan said the contracts are in place...he just need to get through the first 2 fights of his hbo deal(maybe 2)....

whereas ggg was afraid of the guy who reigned 168.....and ward gets more flack on a daily basis!!!

IF Ward fights Kovalev, he would get more credit than GGG can ever ask for. If Ward beats Kovalev, we all know who no 1 P4P is

Ward beating Froch/Kessler is already worth more credit than GGG can ever ask for.

What Ward situation showed that GGG is just like the rest of the boxers, money and fame comes before legacy. The same reason Martinez, Cotto, Sturm etc. chose to avoid him, he chose to go for a different direction than Ward. Unlike his most diehard fans want to believe, It showed that he's not all that different than all other divas, concerns about the "risk/reward" equation and all other stuff that's been bad about boxing. If it were up to me, I wish he'd just forgot about landing a fight vs one of the cashcows and challenged himself against Ward. But I can't be mad at him for doing otherwise cuz fighters have every right to stay in their own natural classes. I don't see anything to ridicule about him and some of his dictators really make some ridicuolus comprasions and criticisms. But I do understand that some people may find it annoying, the way some of his fans try to hype him as a god or an ATG-killer. He's just like the rest of them, a human-being who puts his personal interest before legacy or what's good for boxing.
