That's the most logical assessment for that fight. I haven't seen such a difference in size for a long time in a non-heavyweight bout. These massive weight cutters are messing up the sport big time. Something needs to be done about it.

It doesn't take a genius. Even Miguel Cotto has said he is not a middle weight. And Roach even said if it was up to him Miguel would be fighting at 147

Yes. But that isn't the boxers fault. They are trying to make a living. It is the organizations job to enforce the rules.

i wish Canelo relinquished the title and fought exclusively at JMW. Than we would find out if Gennady is only chasing big money fights or if he's really about unifying the division. I don't like the fact that a guy who's considered a wrecking ball at MW is only looking to fight smaller guys than him because they have a "big" name. It's a pu$sy move on him and his handlers' part.

Tommy Hearns had incredible power at WW, and he took it all the way up to CW. Now THAT's a great fighter.

Even FLoyd Mayweather, a guy never known to be a knockout artist moved up 5 weight classes in his legendary career. Gennady has no business being spoken about in the same breath as great fighters who challenged themselves by going up multiple divisions and DARED to be great. He had a golden opportunity to really prove his worth by taking on Ward just ONE division up from where he normally campaigns at, but we all know what happened there. I hope he enjoys continuing his campaign at MW against mid-level fighters. He'll never be an ATG taking on these nobodies.

First off, don't call me an idiot. WHo the hell do you think you are? Just because we don't have the same opinions of a fighter doesn't mean you need to resort to infantile remarks.

You want to know a little secret? Most fighters don't bother unifying divisions because they know it's a magnanimous task. Why? It has nothing to do with being able to clean out a division, rather it's very hard due to the politics of boxing with all these alphabet organizations for a fighter to be able to unify a division. That's the reason MOST great fighters end up moving up in weight classes. It's not easy to unify an entire division.

Look at Wladimir, a guy who was the lineal champ for almost 10 years. He could never unify the division because of the politics of the sport. He never held ALL the titles. It's mainly due to politics.

Golovkin had a golden opportunity to prove his mettle by taking on Andre Ward at 168 lbs. Andre Ward is widely considered on of the best fighters in the world, and IMO a win over him is much more impressive than unifying a mediocre-talented division such as MW.

Personally i think Gennady is a helluva fighter but at this rate, he'll never reach ATG status.

Almost ALL the ATG's outside of HW's have fought in multiple weight classes. From Ray RObinson to Greb, to Leonard to Langford, to JOnes Jr, Hopkins, Mayweather, Pacman, etc. It's a very long and illustrious list, and one that gennady is definitely not a apart of at this juncture in his career.

It wouldn't be a big deal if he was some top prospect or aguy in his mid 20's. But he's almost 34, and given the state of the MW division, he's not going to be able to enhance his legacy much unless he decides to move up in weight and challenges himself. I don't see how people could rate him so highly when he seemingly isn't challenging himself and daring to be great.

PErsonally he could do whatever he wants, its his prerogative. But given the landscape of the MW division, even if he ends up breaking hopkins' MW defense reign, he'll never be regarded as highly as the great Ray Robinson, Carlos MOnzon, Harry Greb or the Marvelous one. The reason being those guys fought excellent MW's. Gennady unfortunately is campaigning at a time when the MW division is mediocre at best.

So let him enjoy his simple reign at MW, but anyone who knows the real history of the sport will never rank him above the real great MW fighters of yesteryear. I forgot to mention Fitzsimmons as well, another guy who's exponentially greater than Gennady. I mean Fitzy ended up winning the HW championship. Also, I forgot Ketchel. That's 6 Mw's by my count that are guys that Gennady will never usurp if he decided to continue fighting on at 160. So enjoy breaking Hopkins' shallow record.

He can continue dominating 160 for another decade, all he has to do is become Undisputed & his legacy will force itself :bbb
