Golovkin: Fight w/ Ward would have to be at 164, IM A-Side (UCN Interview)

I keep forgetting that people here stop thinking the second they can find an angle to trash a fighter.

Unlike Team Ward, Team GGG has actually floated an opening offer to at least negotiate from. Yet somehow its clear GGG is the one who doesnt want to fight Ward?

Pretty much. And there is a lot of talk about Froch and Chavez proposed weights. But Gennady never fought them. It really doesn't apply. Those two ran from the opportunity, and Ward really isn't looking for Gennady either.

 

Actually GGG does not need Ward. There are plenty fights at MW to be made that will bring him fame AND money.

Ward on the other hand does not have anyone at 168. We are talking about guy who walks around at 176 and fights at 172.Heh right... I doubt he can make 168 anymore, I bet all future fights will be 170+ catchweight.

But the problem is he is afraid of top dogs (Stevenson, Kovalev) at 175..
So what does he do... Talk about guys from 160 and 154 (GGG, Floyd) who should fight him. What a delusional SOB...

 

Saying that GGG doesn't want to fight Ward is not trashing him, it's the truth. They wouldn't be talking about a 164 CW if they did want the fight. I never said anything demeaning about the guy. He has no obligation to fight Ward, but it's pretty obvious to me that Golovkin and his people aren't interested in that fight. All you hear out of them is how Ward needs to build up his name(laughable) and come down to a CW. Considering how aggressive they are about making some of these other fights, that says a lot to me.

 

This is exactly why Golovkin's side is throwing out this CW. They know it's a non starter, but they also know there are plenty of fans that believe this highlighted nonsense.

 

Incorrect on pretty much all counts. Ward building up his name prior to GGG actually came from his manager James Prince as well, he had been out for a long time - its also why he didnt get Wembly Froch fight, per Froch even though Froch had all good things to say about him.

As I noted before, the 164 was with all aspects of fight being split evenly not just weight. Since GGG is the ticket seller at the moment, for Ward to give up ground in other aspects if he wants Golovkin to be the one to leave his division and go up to 168 for the fight is only natural.

Loeffler said Roc had not sent or communicated with them, yet K2 was the one to put out a public starting point for fight terms. How that can be twisted to mean K2 are the ones who do not want the fight is almost beyond imagination. Its not like these terms were any type of "final offer".

Ward has a justly earned reputation for being difficult to negotiate with, and dictating terms as much as he can. Nothing wrong with that in of itself. But anyone saying that K2 is wrong in regards to floating this offer is being terribly biased.

HBO has floated the GGG-Ward fight before, as has now been widely reported. K2 always said yes. 2 years ago that fight would have been on Wards terms. But not today.

Golovkin will fight Ward at 168. Ward just needs to wise up and actually negotiate something reasonable. Ward cant dictate this one, and if he does not recognize that then thats on him and not in any way shape or form about GGG not wanting the fight.

Doubt it. That fight won't be happening anytime soon, if ever. And if Golovkin is such a big draw than he should have no problem finding a worthwhile opponent.

 

Yeah, because I forgot about all the PPV fights that Golovkin has been involved in. The fact of the matter is, Golovkin would probably lose to Ward. They're not going to go up in weight to take a loss unless it's huge money. I'm ok with that, but I don't accept these fraudulent attempts by Golovkin to try to hoodwink people into believing he has any real interest in that fight.
