once upon a time maybe but now golovkin has bigger fish to fry like unifying the division and building on his momentum he is big attraction ward can not even sell tickets in his hometown............

golovkin is averaging 1.2 views and they are not against big named guys the kid is on the brink of being the next ppv star ward needs to build himself up to the point were people will call for the fight it makes no sense in golovkin fighting him now what does he get from beating him?

Golvokin beating ward will not do anything most fans even forgot who he is.

Ward needs to focus on getting his viewer ratings up and make himself less demanding in the negotiation table Golovkin holds the keys now ward :hi:

I would ideally like golovkin to unify the division and rule it then ofcourse move up to 168 and if ward is there and has made a name for himself that fight would make sense but one other question why is ward no even thinking of moving up to 175?

Maybe so, anyways if you think Ward on golovkin means nothing, you're not really a GGG fan, if he actually beats Ward, Canelo, Cotto, Froch, Dirrell brothers, Degale, Quillin, he will go down as an ATG. His resume is actually much better than people make it out to be, these additions would make him truly a great. However I highly doubt he gets past Ward, and Canelo is a 50/50 fight.

Even if he beats him right now, Ward has only been gone for a year and a couple of months. He's still in his prime. He's also had shoulder problems so his hiatus could have done his body good.

To me, neither is really A side. You can make a case for both of course, but there's no clear cut winner. Ward needs to fight again to see where he lies with viewership. Yes he's the more accomplished fighter but right now that might not be enough to warrant him as being the obvoius A side.

For the A-side argument, Golovkin is the A-side.

Golovkin should not face Ward at the moment because he's too "high risk, low reward".

It probably doesn't make much sense. If he fights and loses that's not a good look and if he fights Ward and wins then he will massively reduce his chances of getting a big money fight with Cotto or Canelo.

It makes more sense for GGG to fight Cotto and Canelo first if possible, then go after Chavez and Ward.

You think you're being funny, but casual fans is the right answer. And casual fans bring the most money to the boxing business as they outnumber hardcore fans, big time.

Andre Ward is not a household name... neither is Golovkin, but he's a lot higher on that scale than Ward is right now.

And since Ward is not a household name, Golovkin would get little credit from the general populace.

I do think eventually this fight will happen, but for it to go through, one of them needs to reach PPV level of popularity.

Until then, it's in the no man's land of being too expensive for a network but too risky for PPV.

That's why, even if you don't root for Ward or Golovkin, you need to root for one of them becoming big enough to make it happen if you want to see that fight. There's only 3, maaayyybbeee 4 guys (if you're generous and include Froch) that can get either one to that level- Chavez, Canelo, or Cotto.

That's also why Andre was gunning so hard for Chavez. GGG has more potential PPV gateway fights open to him, while Julio is the only game in town for Andre to get there.
