Golovkin-Rubio drew more than double Ward's gate strictly, and I mean strictly because Rubio was fighting and Garcia training him. Nice.

Nobody has forgotten the Olympic gold medalist and one of the best p4p fighters in the world. You just want to think that. If this fight were made now it would be huge, and no other fight would cement GGG as a top fighter more than this if he could pull the upset. Unifying at 160means little. Cotto isnt in Wards stratosphere in terms of skill and thats the last big fight Golovkin can make at 160.

 

I don't think there's an "if" here, the fight won't get made. Both teams accepted the fact that it's not PPV material yet, and Ward's 2M min purse won't sit well with K2 as Golovkin scores a lot higher on the 'What have you done for HBO recently' scale. No way HBO pays 4+ mil for that fight only, I recall the Kovalev-Hopkins fee to be 2 to 3M in pre-fight articles.

Should this "if" come through for the boxing world, you're also looking at Golovkin taking the time to unify 160 (it is meaningful from a legacy's perspective - fight everybody that's relevant) and Ward taking two tune-ups in 2015 as reported on the Scene a couple of weeks ago. Lots of wait time, if indeed it gets made.
