Yeah, see, I didn't have to look up boxrec. I just knew those things. Obviously I am not the all seeing God who knew about Ishida's middleweight fling a decade ago.
If somebody asked you what Muhammad Ali's record is on a televised quiz show, what would you say? Would you answer: 56-5 Or would you answer: 55-6 * because I feel Norton beat him twice. --- You are engaging in intellectual dishonesty by allowing yourself to believe that factual records can change based on one person's (yours) retrospective opinion. There is no excuse for such a travesty!
I'd still say Macklin is better than Maidana. Giving the legit Middleweight champion and pound for pound rated guy a tough fight since winning the belt is better than losing nearly every round to Devon Alexander. If Macklin and Maidana was the same size and fighting each other next, I would say with a great deal of confidence Macklin would defeat Maidana. As would Curtis Stevens and Gabriel Rosado for that matter.
Are we discussing boxing or spouting off random trivia like Ali's official record? Do you think you're going to win a prize for counting losses as wins on here? Personally, I don't care about Ali's official record. Norton beat him at least twice and Ali never convincingly beat Norton. That's reality. Again, this is not a trivia spouting contest.
I... I don't know what to say. I gave Macklin 3 rounds against Sergio after 11. Not exactly a super close fight, although I do applaud his effort. In fact, I scored 5 rounds to Barker going into the final round over Sergio before Macklin even fought Sergio. So... yeah. In that sense, Barker deserves more props than Macklin based solely off their common opponent. You point out Macklin's shining moment yet pick Maidana's lowest moment in an effort to discredit him. Maidana has since gone on to stop Jesus Soto Karass, a top 10 or fringe top 10 WW (WW has much more quality depth than MW). If you were fair in bringing up Maidana's worst moment, than let us too be reminded that Macklin had lost multiple times before at the domestic level before he ever left the island. You really think Macklin's style would do well against Maidana? I think he's honestly stylistically made for him. Curtis Stevens? The guy who beat Saul Roman and has done nothing else at the top level in his career? Oh, yeah, 2013 Saul Roman isn't exactly top level or even close, so...
So he beat Soto Karass? It's not like he's anything special. Golovkin victim Rosado beat him even more handily. And the fights I mentioned took place in 2012 for Macklin and Maidana. Not years back. And yes, I do believe, head to head, of the same weight, that version of Macklin beats the version of any fighter Broner has ever stepped in the ring with in a hypotical head to head match if the same size. And yes, I think Stevens would be quite a few highly ranked Middleweights. Just looking at who he has beat and who he hasn't is for Boxrec warriors. I'd say of the top 10 or so Middleweights, I'd favor him over the likes of Strum, Rubio and even Quillin.
I agree, Geale would easily account for Macklin. If Geale was to fight GGG, he wouldn't be beat before the starting bell like Macklin was. Geale is always a confident and calm fighter. I give Geale the best hope out of the middleweights of toppling GGG. But still have him falling short, I think he'll provide a great fight at least.
I read that Murray flat out refused to fight Golovkin for the title. Golovkin will knock Geale out if they fight..............
Ggg vs Murray was the only fight I wanted to see him in at 160 but murray is scared so what are you gonna do
I don't think the TS really has a strong case for Geale vs GGG, though it's a fight I'd like to see. Geale had been petitioning the IBF for a Barker rematch last I heard, but with the Barker - Sturm agreement (inc. possible rematch), Geale's kinda gonna have to wait. Also he has said that 1) he went straight back into training and is looking for a fight soon, and 2) in the past he has said he thinks he could beat GGG (remembers his style from the ams and has a plan apparently). GGG would give him his quickest shot at a belt, and a decent payday (if the $500,000 Murray was supposed to get is accurate, Geale should get similar). Even a loss to GGG wouldn't take him outta the running for the IBF scrum at some point down the line. Hints coming out of the GGG camp are that a 'world ranked' opponent is being lined up, but as we all know that can mean just about anything, could be Geale, Andy Lee is a possibility, Mora, Vera, Truax, even Rubio I suppose if he was willing to risk losing his Maravilla mando (which seems unlikely). I for one also think that Murray will fight GGG at some point in 2014, but most likely in the US (the visa issue can be sorted if he has plenty of notice prior to the fight date) on HBO. There's no reason to think he's 'scared' or some such rubbish, but it's totally reasonable for Martin to want a win or two after taking the 'L' against Sergio. I guess even someone at 168 is a possibility.
I have to see the official announcements first to believe Geale would put hims limbs on the line against GGG. He already said once he would never duck him if he won Sturm's belt and subsequently ducked him anyway. So I'm not believing this until the contracts are signed.
