The way I see canelo's cw demands against ggg is this. Ggg could comply and beat canelo or Canelo will be strip and ggg will fight the manditory to reach his goal. I think ggg would have cleaned out the MW division at this point and move to fight for the smw title. There is still a chance ggg might move back to fight canelo at 160 in 2 to 3 years.
It won't mean anything. Sven Ottke had 2 titles and nobody gave a **** then, and nobody gives a **** now. It's all about "WHO" you beat.
Most would considered canelo's demand as another fighter who rather get strip of his title than to face ggg and In my mind that is a concession on canelo's part. Also most thought Calzaghe was the top guy in the smw during Ottke days. Winning the MW and smw titles are note worthy accomplishments.
If WBC keeps their word and strip off Canelo/Cotto winner, and if Lee beats BJS and (probably) agrees to fight GGG, then GGG can be the undisputed champion before summer, by which time the lineal title will most likely be vacant and everyone knows whom it really belongs to.
Don't forget, Cotto refused to fight his mandatory which was Golovkin, so he paid Golovkin step aside money so he could fight Alvarez. So now the WBC has promised to make Golovkin the mandatory for the winner of Cotto/Alvarez....................watch the winner give up their title rather than fight Golovkin................Golovkin will knock either one of them out and they know it.................
in this story Cotto is the Sven Ottke, holding the belt hostage while avoiding the best challenger, fighting crippeled opponents (either litterally or due to contract stipulations)
I hope he manages to get the WBC belt because if it stays with Cotto or Canelo the whole linear-concept will be lost. Everybody already knows the belt belongs to GGG. Btw. Jamie Moore had a good say about GGG: "When you're looking for ways to beat someone, you want to see tiny glimpses of weakness where they look uncomfortable, but he never looks like he's got in to fourth gear. He's always in second or third and I think it'll take someone bigger and physically stronger to push him backwards; not a fair fight, basically, because I don't think he'll be beaten through ability."
