"Golovkin has to move up" -wrong. Lemme cut you off there. He actually doesn't, ever.

140 was known as the hottest division at the time Tszyu reigned.

So your point of it being a dead division is made up as per usual.

Not really. Ali only held one version through much of his first reign, but was still the man at heavyweight throughout his reign. Gonna deny that?

In the case of Garcia, he had partially unified with Khan (who arguably should have been given both belts back after Peterson came back positive) and became lineal after defeating Lucas (#1 met #2). That's enough to be considered "The Man".

So is 168. And there is a stronger case for it.

Not really. Zab was undefeated and streaking, but Sharmba was of the "good-but-not-great" variety of titleholder. The contenders were solid, but not exactly spectacular through much of KT's reign.

He gets credit for unifying, though.

Great story, but at least it's an improvement on the Hopkins years.

Agreed! What ever he does will be criticized! If he were to move up people will say he left middle weight to avoid Canelo!

people keep thinking if ggg does what Hopkins did it will somehow elevate him to the level of Hopkins ...on an atg great scale...they keep mentioning Hopkins thinking beating his mw record somehow equates to being seen as the same level of ATG.....which will never happen because Hopkins mw reign is not what has made his status

When the reigning number 1 doesn't have to fight a guy like Robert Allen 3 times because there is no depth in the division.

To be honest I was wrong both Hopkins and Golovkin are ruling over a similar level division. The only difference being one fighter is looking unbeatable whilst the other was struggling with Allen and going the distance with Andrew Council.

Shockmaster has a point on that though. B-Hop became HOF worthy with his MW reign but what made him an ATG is what he did after his reign ended.

Check off one of the most used excuses but but Hopkins, GGG would need 10 more fights to truly reach Hopkins MW defense record that interim title is not a real Championship. It's damn ridiculous that people keep pushing that bull**** off when 80% of those are of what is essentially a Jr. Varsity or D-League title.

    I fully agree.

Although we have to remember Hopkins started off at 175 and built his way down to 160, were as Golovkin is a true 160 fighter.

:good Right On Thread on GGG not having to move anywhere!!!
Props to him for holding his ground...he's got a professional team.
Unlike the amateaur hour in the Canelo camp.
