...but who is there, there? If he beats GRS, JDG, and Badou Jack - okay, great, now what? There isn't a ton of depth in the pipeline up there.

CEJ, BJS, and Jacobs are =/= those three, and behind them you have a STACKED class of up-and-comers that just doesn't exist at SMW.

Boxers pack on pounds in between fights, I doubt GGG would look flabby or out of shape if he fought at 168. Don't forget these are world class fighters were talking about here.

There's no guarantee he beats those guys at 168, like there's no guarantee these up and comers will reach contender status IB. If he clears out BJS and nobody else wants to fight him (for example) why not move up to 168? That's just how I look at the situation.

See, here's where you get stupid.

You assume that just because I made a thread defending GGG's right to just be a great career MW, that I have some dog in the race of all the line-drawn-in-the-sand bickering among camps. I don't.

I actually appreciate all 4 of the guys in the quadrangle. Mayweather, Golovkin, Ward and Kovalev - all great, IMO. GGG and Krusher aren't "better" just because they go for (and get) the KO more often. Nor are PBF and SOG "better" just because they opt for a more defensive-oriented strategy. There is validity to all of their approaches. They all an abundance of talent and oodles of skill. I enjoy watching & following them all, and I don't lay the blame at any of their feet individually for matches between them not getting made - it's just been the usual boxing politics BS, nobody ducking anybody, it is what it is. In fact, I've never even WANTED to see any of those matches get made (with the exception of Kovalev vs. Ward, now, simply because SOG has moved up and fully established himself at light heavy).

If he comes back from retirement, Mayweather should take on nothing but top welterweights: Errol Spence, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, etc.

Golovkin should continue taking on all the best middleweights out there: Saunders, Jacobs, Eubank, and then, if successful with that, handle the next gen.

Ward and Kovalev should take on EACH OTHER, and then both winner & loser should take turns knocking Adonis Stevenson's punk ass TFO. :yep

They showed a picture of Golovkin on vacation. They said he was like 10 lbs. above his normal weight IIRC. He looked fat, like really fat.

Golovkin weighs in around 165/164 for his 30-day weigh in. I can't imagine him putting on more weight. He's not that big of a fighter.

Also, Canelo comes in at 164-168 lbs. for his 30-day weigh in, and we aren't pushing him to move up to SMW.

Maybe I should do a long form thread in the Lounge based on IB's BJ law of diminishing marginal utility theory.:yep

I see what you're saying, but a fighter knows his body, I'm sure GGG wouldn't look flabby for any weigh in at 168.

We're not pushing Canelo to 168, because he started his career as a 147 pounder:deal cmon man.

Not everyone can man. I am five pounds over fight weight and have never been more than fifteen pounds over that average in two decades - felt absolutely **** at the higher weight, and wouldn't have beaten a fly let alone Ward.

But did you say you can fight at a weight 1 down from your weight limit? Are you an amatuer boxer or you just cut weight to be healthy?
