In this interview, a reporter asked him about his black eye and if Monroe had good power. Remember, him and Monroe beat each other up on the inside the 4th and 5th rounds. Monroe hit Golovkin with some good shots which lead some fans to be concerned. Gennady's response? He said Monroe's power felt like a tap, "ting ting" is the onomatopoeia he used to describe it. A TAP. "I don't feel power. I feel like... ting, ting." [like taps?] "Yeah, like taps!" He also goes on to describe how he purposely left himself open so Monroe would hit him and they'd give a good show. WE NEED MORE FIGHTERS LIKE THIS.
So he takes punches from a guy with 9 knock outs??? He didn't "LET" Stevens and Rosado Tee off on him.
Still, I think its kinda silly to take any extra soft tissue damage just for a show if that's what he indeed was doing. That stuff can build up, GGG is a "young" 33 precisely because he doesn't cop much damage in his fights, just like how Floyd is still viable top 5 p4p at an even lower weight at 38.. because he doesn't take much damage.
It doesn't make much sense when you say you didn't feel the power while your eye looks like that. He did feel the power, but he wasn't shaken up, that's different.
