Golovkin is better than Martinez in almost every way

Golovkin's jab and counterpunching ability make this an extremely dangerous fight for any version of Martinez. If Martinez runs into that jab, he might go down. If he runs into Golovkin's left hook or right hand, he might go to sleep.

Tell me again where Golovkin victories would place in a lineup of Sergios best.....

 

Of course he's the more fundamently sound fighter. Also, I'd venture to say most decent pro boxers have better fundamentals than manny Pacquaio... They keep there hands up, don't leap in with them down, etc, etc. DOESNT mean they would necessarily beat Manny Pacquiao though.
A prime Martinez vs this version of GGG is still hard for me to pick. I just haven't seen enough of GGG to really pick one or the other. Obviously we know Martinez is tough (see performance against Pavlik), but I've yet to see GGG get in the trenches.
Of course it doesn't matter at this point because Martinez is starting to fade it seems, and GGG seems to young/ to strong. I'd like to see GGG fight somebody like Chavez Jr. or Quillin and I think I can gauge how good he actually is.

 

Been saying it for a while, and the fight with Macklin wasn't needed to convince me: Martinez gets knocked out by GGG.

Prediction: Martinez will never fight him. It will end his career, and Sergio knows it.

 

Styles make fights, facket - not resumes.

 

G3 has youth on his side. The Martinez of 3 years ago would have a great chance to defeat G3. PW of 4 years ago would have given G3 big trouble. Now, G3 beats everyone.

Martinez's resume is clearly superior and his career is borderline HOF quality. I'm a big fan of Sergio and I've got the utmost respect for his in-ring accomplishments and the kind of person he is outside the ring.....but him going against Golovkin now is a classic passing of the torch fight. Serg gets hit too much these days and I'm not sure his chin would've ever held up against the kind of power GGG brings to the table. Moreso than just God-given power, the fundamental soundness of Golovkin is exceptional. Power punchers are supposed to fall in love with their power and be easily outboxed, but GGG defies that.

After everything Martinez had to overcome in terms of boxing politics and bad decisions to get to where he is, it'd pain me to see what Golovkin would do to him.
