Golovkin is just not a natural 168 pounder

Not really Kirk I just want it to be fair. If guys like Broner, JMM, Cotto, Pac, PBF Guerrero or Rios can move up then why can't GGG? Especially since no one worth fighting is at 160. Martinez is about done much better names at 168.

Honestly im more worried about him fighting at 54 than 68

I honestly believe he could carry a lot of that power up in weight, just that people would stop seeing him as a scary puncher, but rather someone who can bang

Id like to see Golovkin go for a Stielglitz fight if the middleweight champions continue to avoid him

Those guys all moved up because they couldn't make weight and/or to seek bigger money fights. Golovkin makes 160 just fine. It's the optimal division for him. If there was a big money opportunity at 168 or even 175, I'm sure he'd go up in weight.

Hey guys, why the fukk did PWill never move up to 175? :rofl

True. He needs -and wants- to clean up 160 first.

I can understand where youre coming from Pimp, but for me the thing is this.

If Broner, Mayweather, Pac, ect.... moved up, thats their choice. Nobody forced them to. And many of the guys you listed moved up because they didnt want to make the weights they were at anymore, or couldnt. The others were just chasing bigger paydays in more prestigious divisions, or looking to make bigger waves in the sport (which usually lead to bigger paydays as well) and many of them were having trouble making the previous weight anyways, or didnt want to bother making the weight anymore (cotto, rios, pac, ect)

Golovkin is at one of boxings most prestigious divisions, and has a chance, however realistic or not, to create a chapter within the middleweight division all his own, and become the new eras first 'great' middleweight. Hes got at least 4 more good years, if he stays healthy.

I just dont understand this notion that Golovkin should leave the division hes absolutely meant for and comfortable at, and has the chance to make a real mark in over the years, because every other fighter jumps divisions, or outgrows theirs (cotto at 140, Rios 130's). So Golovkin has to fight bigger guys then him, because Pac did? Golovkin should go up and lose to people he shouldnt be fighting in the first place, because Cotto didnt want to make 147 anymore? And wound up losing to a fighter he was too small for? (Trout)

Its just holding a fighter whos completely comfortable where he is, to a certain criteria because other fighters happen to do it, in completely different circumstances.

What about Hopkins in his prime? Hagler? Kostya? Andre Ward (as of now). What happened to staying at a division and just ruling it?

Ward has few options left at 68... should he ditch the division and fight Kovalev for that reason? If hes completely comfortable at 168? I dont think so, and I dont get this strong desire to push fighters past where they should be, just to see them fight and probably lose to, fighters they shouldnt be in the weightclass with to begin with.

Its also quite clear that the majority of the people that would rather see Golovkin fight people bigger then him, instead of trying to make a legacy at middleweight, are people who are eager to see him get beat. And its not hard to see that many of the people awaiting his downfall, just so happen to be Mayweather and Broner fans.

No, im saying id 'rather' see him stay at 160 and go for making his mark there, and see if he can become great, than to move up and get beat by guys he shouldnt be fighting in the first place.

Its choosing one option out of an 'either or' scenario.

    Hard to comprehend, I realize.

I did. I was posting on my lunch break, and am not typing real posts on my phone. Pimps post required a genuine post, as hes a quality poster. So waited til I got home so I could respond properly. That ok with you

I have no problem with Golovkin staying at MW. However, how can you blame fans for wanting to see him take on guys at SMW? It was Golovkin himself who said he'd fight anyone at SMW. Froch, Chavez, and Ward have all expressed interest in fighting him. If Golovkin can't get a big fight at MW, then it's only natural that fans would call for him to fight the top guys at 168.

I hear you, and I agree its natural to want to see him move up and challenge himself against bigger fighters, when nobody seems to be able to challenge him at middle (yet. Lets remember though, Golovkin hasnt even fought a real, real legit middleweight yet)

And his team talking about 168, that falls entirely on them and G. When you open your mouth about it, then you are writing checks that the public will expect you to cash at some point. So that falls on them for sure and again, I understand. And theyre eagerness to jump divisions (supposedly) will probably be there downfall.

If Golovkin moves up and fights at 68, Ill be super excited to say the least. Its hard not to like a Golovkin vs Froch, or Golovkin vs Ward fight. My stance is simply that as a boxing fan Id rather see him try and become something special at middle, as I think his success will be limited at 168, not due entirely to the divisions size of fighters, but because of the quality of operators that are there in Ward and Froch. If the division had average fighters there, then Im sure he would have success. But Ward is a p4p talent, along with being bigger. Froch just had a weird trait of winning. And so I just dont get wanting to see Golovkins limit in terms of how big the person should be in order for him to struggle, or lose. So then he loses, and its entirely down to that he should have been at middleweight, not super or light heavy.

But I understand that fans wanting him to move up is natural. But I just think that for the more thoughtful boxing fans, to really think about it, and realize that they are technically wanting a fighter (this doesnt go for Golovkin, but for every fighter who makes their weight comfortably and are totally at home there) to move up and fight guys that they dont belong in the same weight class with.
