Look, I acknowledge that Canelo was the bigger draw heading into the first match. Fact is, he failed to seize the hardware from Golovkin (and that's with a result that was, quite generously to him, not filed in his L column) so for the second consecutive time he's coming in empty-handed with the overwhelming public majority perception being that Golovkin ought to have gotten the nod in their draw. I fail to see how Canelo's stock can still, after that, be higher to a point where he's a clear "A-side". Yes, he's the biggest fight out there for Golovkin but the inverse of that is no less true, and even a lot of Mexican boxing legends/pundits/industry folk (as representative mouthpieces of at least a very sizable cross-section of fans) have expressed significantly diminished interest to see Canelo do anything until he rectifies that blemish with GGG.

Like I said, being a draw is nothing more than popularity.

And whatever edge in popularity Canelo had over Golovkin heading into their first match has shrunk as the overwhelming public sentiment in their rivalry - even among Mexican casual fans - has shifted toward GGG.

It certainly has, can't deny. I just wonder how much has shifted.

It has always been my understanding that the term "A side" refers to the business end of the fight game. Canelo was the "A side" because he was a GBP fighter. GBP got the venue, ran the promotions, and most importantly hired and paid the judges. I can't envision GGG's people running a big money promotion in a fight with Canelo in Vegas. Just my thoughts, I don't portray myself an expert.

Not before they fought the first time. Now, with public sentiment toward Canelo nosediving (especially in the wake of MeatGate), maybe not that cut and dry..

The draw with Canelo raised GGG's profile/drawing power as much as it was a drain on Canelo's. Not always is being the A-side exactly a zero sum game but it kind of was in this instance.

Well it’s funny you say that cause Precise puncher on YouTube has maintained from the off that Canelo wasn’t the overwhelming A side he was made out to be.
Sure Canelo got the venue,Ref,judges and more money which would indicate he’s the A side but one has to think back to the WBC forcing Canelo to fight GGG or vacate which totally blew Canelo as at that point he thought he could do anything without consequences,I’m certain that was the start of his career unraveling.
Another point and Golovkin brought this up,had Canelo done better in the fight and not got so overwhelmed theyed of given him the win but even they as corrupt as they are couldn’t take all those belts off Golovkin as the media and fans would of gone berserk but to be sure everything was in place for the robbery.
Last point Tom Loeffler and GGG carry a lot of weight in the sport and whilst GGG doesn’t get the pay per views Canelo gets he sells out venues and sells a lot of merchandise so I totally agree if anything next time GGG should be able to call the venue and judges but you just know that won’t happen cause Canelo is such a diva he’ll refuse to fight an old GGG on neutral ground so Golovkin as usual will do what he has to just to get the fight.

I reckon Canelos 500k PPVs are bought up by 16yr old Mexican girls wanting to see his red locks and his Clenbuterol gains lol.

Lol not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not,I will say out of all the YouTube channels that I’ve flirted with he’s the one I’ve stuck with.
I used to watch Montero and Precise P kept on telling me he’s not what you think and could be a Golden Boy shill, whatever he is he’s certainly sympathetic to GB and Canelo as he been pushing the tainted meat thing but jumped down Povetkin throat lol.
Never liked his bias against Joshua wince I was an AJ fan but he can say what he wants now for all I care cause since that AJ v Parker fight and the obvious A side BS and corrupt Ref ect I could hardly call Canelo out for that BS and pretend it was fine as regards Joshua.

The whole A side thing in boxing really gets on my wick and as pure boxing fans I think we put up with way too much bull s*** and corruption in the sport.
In what other sport would you accept and put up with the crap we do,it’s like you’re going to see the Lakers play someone and accept they’ll win regardless of the actual score lol,bit of an extreme example but this is how it’s going so guys like Mayweather,Canelo and Joshua can all disappear for all I care and let the Wilders and Spences of this world fight in front of a few thousand for little money cause right now I’ve more respect for them than the cancer that is “A side”.

El Pollo and Oscar have really harmed Golovkin's career by keeping him inactive.

Correct. However, that makes him the A-side, because he has more people willing to shell out bucks to see him fight than GGG. Unfair, sad, bull**** ... but true.
