He's amazing but I don't see the point of it. He looks small against other 160 lb guys and I feel like his natural weight class is really 154. I feel like there is no reason for him to go up at 168. He already has great wins on his resume and has dominated his division, but I guess this is just about the money. If he dominates 168 then he could be seen as maybe one of the greatest p4p guys all time.
BF24, please don't be re****ed enough to let this turn this into a 5+ pages thread. http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/bait-poster01.jpg
There's no huge difference between MW and SMW. And we all know he can beat Cotto and Canelo, he needs to fight Froch for his legacy. If his amateur background reflects his skills, it won't be a big problem for him.
Mike Tyson was a 5'10" Heavyweight Golovkin is 5'10" and sparring partners say he hits like one. He basically drains himself to be 160. 170 on fight night is Super Middle to me.
no way to know until he tries it. he has savage power and skills. I remember people saying Hearns was too small for whatever Division and I think he won a title in just about everyone he fought in
I'm not sure about too small, but let's look at it this way, he's not a super middleweight, to be moving up would be to handicap himself against naturally bigger fighters. Whether he can still be good with that sort of disadvantage and how his power/strength and boxing skills will carry up against physically bigger opponents remains to be seen. Will he be AS GOOD as he is as he is at middleweight (which is his natural weight class), very much likely he won't be. That's just the way it is.
If 170 on fight night is Super Middle to you then what things mean to you is not very important... Let me give you all the SMW rehydration weights that are available on basementgymboxing. Bute/Andrade Bute: 182 Andrade: 185 Bute/Miranda Bute: 182 Miranda: 185 Ward/Dawson Ward: 176 Dawson: 185 Arias/Livingston Arias:180.5 Livingston: 178.5 Gausha/Waters (at 164 lb catchweight) Gausha: 184 Waters: 172.5 For further reference Chocolatito and Sosa rehydrated 12 and 13 lbs respectively last Saturday and they fight at a 112 lb weight limit.... a 10 lb weight cut when you're fighting at 160 is not 'draining' by any stretch.
Heavier? What is Froch's fight night weight? I know Froch doesn't rehydrate much but please cite a source for this. Apparently GGG was 170 for the Monroe fight. http://basementgymboxing.blogspot.com/2014/01/fight-night-boxing-weights-list-of.html
