Golovkin landed 211 and missed 342 times. Which means Golovkin missed 131 more punches than he landed. He landed 46 fewer than Canelo's 257. Golovkin Punches by round: 1. = 4 2. = 12 3. =23 4. = 17 5. = 29 6. = 27 7. = 22 8. = 26 9. = 37 10. = 34 11. = 16 12. = 17 When in doubt I gave the benefit of the doubt to Golovkin. One commentator was praising GGG for landing when it was Canelo who was landing. Why beats me since they don't physically resemble each other. Amazing the power wishful thinking can have on the human brain!
**** all that hating stuff people are saying, man I just appreciate boxing and Canelo showed awesome defense last night. Hell he showed a type of defense that Mayweather showed against him making Golovkin miss a whole lot. The judging may have left a sour taste but the fight was superb. He made a highly fundamental fighter look bad at times bad just dodging punches. It makes Golovkin look predictable, which he was. Shout out to Gennady not throwing a fit and having awesome stamina for a puncher. Canelo has a chin under that red Adrien Broner suicide beard he grew.
Very true! He obviously learned a lot from Mayweather and is far more effective in the execution of the Mayweather style than Broner ever was. Amazingly, he was also able to mix it up with GGG taking GGG's punched full flus and remaining on his feet. in fact, there were moments in which he actually had GGG backing up after some exchanges. Being the smaller man that was something no-one expected. About the hatred, there are two possible reasons. One is that many boxing fans dislike Hoya because they consider him a fixer of fight results. Since Canelo is under his wing they suspect that Canelo is in cahoots with Hoya one way or the other. However, if so, then why weren't these same folks offended when GGG was the cash cow in the Jacobs fight and the likelihood of GGG getting a gift decision was very probable. In fact, there are many fans who do believe that Jacobs was cheated and even Jacobs mentioned the cash-cow issue himself during the post-fight interview. So the dislike or hatred might be motivated by other issues which are totally unrelated to boxing per se but which are culturally and ethnically oriented.
Incredibly people think that moving forward and getting hit is winning a fight as long as you don't look hurt but, Mayweather dominated for the past decade moving backward and beating guys. Canelo stood toe to toe with GGG who is the bigger man with the reputation of a KO artist and he never fell. Jacobs fell, David fell, but Canelo stood tall and was swinging back.
In boxing we count punches that are landed. He can miss a ton as long as he outlanded the other person, generally he shall get the win. Pointless thread.
It's very rare that a fighter lands more than he misses. So while Golovkin's connect rate was lower than normal it wasn't below anything normal for a world class fighter. And credit must be given to Canelo, he's obviously the best defensive fighter Golovkin has faced to date, we shouldn't be surprised to see GGG's connect rate drop.
Here is a video that illustrates just what I was saying. Start at the 3:00 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK2KFLM1O1Q
its quite easy for a weak mind to bull**** himself into believing anything he wants, a stronger mind is forced into adding reality into the equation, even though the answer it produces causes pain. thats where the strength comes into play.
