Actually, I'd like to see Golovkin vs. Lara.

Can you imagine if Erislandy Lara outpointed Golovkin to set up a rematch with Canelo next year?

Lara only has three losses in his career and they're all controversial.

    1. The ridiculous majority decision loss to Paul Williams, where it appeared Williams was about to be stopped on multiple occasions and it seemed for all the world that Paul was lucky to even last the distance. Arguably, the worst high-profile robbery of the last decade. All three judges were suspended and forced to retake "how to judge a boxing match" training classes.

    2. The questionable split decision against the rising Canelo Alvarez, which was also hotly disputed.

    3. And the classic war with Jarrett Hurd where Hurd seemed to need a knockdown in the last round to escape with the win. Which Hurd scored, but it was still razor close. (Yet another split decision loss.)

If Lara can manage to outpoint Golovkin and become the World Middleweight Champion, it will likely cast a totally different shine on his entire career.

Anyone have thoughts on this possible showdown between two veterans approaching the ends of the careers?

I don't seek out Lara fights these days. I'm more of a fan of big punchers. But every couple years, he delivers a really fun fight to watch.

And it could allow him to rematch Canelo next September, when Canelo will be looking for someone who doesn't hit very hard to come back against.

Lara turned 39 in April. If he beats Golovkin, that would make him one of the oldest men to ever win the middleweight title.

But he'll be fighting a middleweight champ one year older than him.

What will never happen? The fight?

Golovkin's deal with DAZN is over but he said he still wants to fight. I'm sure Showtime and the PBC would love to put that fight on.

Gennady is still the WBA's middleweight champ. He loses that belt if he doesn't agree to fight Lara. And I'm sure he doesn't see Lara as a big threat.

I think we're likely to see it.

Lara fights his best against the best opponents. It's a good style matchup. They are both around the same age. I'd like to see it.

Well, that would certainly be an upset.

But, like I said, he fights his best when facing his best opponents. And fighting heavier guys isn't a big issue. Williams was a light heavyweight when they stepped in the ring. Hurd looked like a cruiserweight (and probably was).

You do realize that Jarrett Hurd and Brian Castano beat Lara right? GGG is a super Hurd/Castano. He beats Lara within an inch of his life, also Lara is an old man and his legs have gone as well, so he'll get the Murata treatment.

It should be a good fight while it lasts. Both are past their best, but I think Lara more so. Lara was slick in the day, but couldn't keep Hurd off him. I don't think that bodes well in a fight with GGG, even if he is past his best.

Now that im thinking about it, i really doubt GGG will take the WBA mando which is Lara, and opt to fight his IBF mando Falcao instead... i hope im wrong but i just have a feeling that he doesnt ever want to fight Lara.

GGG ain’t fighting in january, that’s for sure. But since his contract with DAZN is over, PBC might make him a very good offer.

If GGG comes to win like he did against Murata (and not Canelo) then I'm sorry Lara is getting bodybagged.

GGG is old but I don't buy that excuse for the sparring session against Clenboy. He's still an elite fighter in comparison to everyone at middle.

Hopefully Eubank, Andrade or Charlo fight him. Theyre gonna be shook when they realise Golovkin isn't pulling punches and pitty pattying like he did against Canelo
