Admitedly Gennady Golokvin has to get past world #244 ranked Columbian Milton Munez for the interim title next month first.

    ....but it's shaping as

    c/o Boxing Scene - Kamel Messani (12th July 2010)

The WBA has examined the situation with the vacant “regular” world middleweight title. The oldest of the major organizations had initially chosen Gennady Golovkin and Anthony Mundine to dispute the vacant title but Mundine declined the offer.

Consequently Team Golovkin has chosen Milton Nunez (number 13 WBA) as a substitute, and Team N’dam (number 2 WBA) immediately contested this decision and expressed his discontent through various articles and letters, claiming the right to dispute the vacant title against Gennady Golovkin (number 1 WBA).

The WBA through the voice of its president Gilberto Mendoza delivered his decision and precised that the the bout between Golovkin and Munez will be considered for an interim title, the winner having to fight Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam for the regular title. Felix Sturm is considered the "super champion" at middleweight by the WBA.

“I am satisfied with the decision given by the WBA, M.Mendoza finally reacted and recognized the credibility of the WBA “regular” title.

Thanks to our articles on Boxing Scene and (later copied to the WBA official website), these popular boxing sites have been our main media to express our indignation to the whole world and prevent Team Golovkin to impose their choice to avoid fighting Hassan. I know that a lot of boxers are avoiding N’dam, I can concede that renowned boxers like Felix Sturm need to make their title profitablem,” entrusted in us the trainer and manager of Hassan N’dam, Mouss Ouicher.

"But Golovkin has not proven anything at this time, that’s why I find it legitimate for Golovkin to dispute a title match against Hassan instead of an average boxer that discredits the title. The fight Golovkin vs Nunez will only be a bout for an interim title and not the regular title despite the will of Team Golovkin. The winner will have three months to fight Hassan for the regular

Its a good thing the WBA have made this an interim title and not the regular title.

However the problem for Hassan is the % split will be in Golovkins favour when it comes time to talk numbers and if it goes to a purse bid then I think interim champ gets 60%....not quite fair as Hassan should have got the shot when khoder decided to go 154

Number 200 plus should never have got a bloody look-in Ash!

True, the money split might not work out fair. But a better deal than the old days where the champ often made all the money in title bouts and it was all about having possession of the title to make money.

That interim belt is only there to rip the fees off.
otherwise Golovkin might had choosen an more credible opponent for that tune up fight but he had to take one out of their ranking
aside from St.Juste who later was removed and Nunez who hasnt much to loose in that fight anyway all others either had other plans or refused to fight due to bad risk-reward ratio including N´Dam
Hes waiting since december for his mandatory shot
    Sturm bitched out
    Mundine bitched out
If Mundine had stated from the beginning that he wants no part of Golovkin and hadnt acted like hes considering the fight it would have been only fair to call a purse bid for Golvkin vs N´Dam fight.
But since Golovkin is inactive since past november and Mundine and Sturm only wasted his time he has to be allowed to finally do fight at least.
Spilt should be 50-50 bc it will be for a vacant belt
at least i hope so otherwise i doubt that N´Dam will take it.

Point 1...Mundine did try to make the fight v Golovkin when sturm was made super champ but deal fell over...Mundine got offered an easy road to the 154 title and took that instead of fighting a hard fighter...after talks with Mundine and Golovkin fell over Golovkins team thought they would force mundine to a purse bid thinking he was still trying to fight for the 160 title...but team Mundine had made the mind up to take the easy road at 154.

Point 2...I hope your right but pretty sure interim belt holder gets 60% of the purse if it does go to WBA bid....did you hear how much they offered Hassan?

If Mundine had told the WBA at any time prior to the purse bid that he has no interest in a fight with Golovkin bc he is going to move down in weight why in hell should they have called for a purse bid then? Thats what i was criticizing. He made that decision at least a month prior to the purse bid. If he had told them in time a Golovkin vs N´Dam purse bid could have been called for that date or close to that date the unnecessary Golovkin vs Mundine bid took place.
Mundine has a name and is a good draw of course they had prefered to fight him rather than Nunez for next to nothing in Mexico or N´Dam for low money in Kazakhstan.
I dont know an exact number it was rumored there was an 6 digit offer made to N´Dam which sounded quite fair for a fight set to happen somewhere in Kazakhstan.
However now theres a bigger time slot to get the fight done. My hope is that either an US promoter shows interest or N´Dam can put an solid offer together to get the fight headed to France. Since N´Dam obviously has been named as the official co-challenger for the vacant belt i just hope there will be a 50-50 split. If it was an interim title defense than it would be a different thing i was thinking.
I looked it up on the WBA website but they dont point it out for that exact case

Mate Im still :huh about what happened there

Before the purse bid was even mentioned Mundine v Golovkin looked set but went bad last moment.

Fact is Mundines manager never went to the purse bid and never had a rep there either.

End of the day because Mundine decided not to fight Golovkin the WBA should have called another purse bid between next 2 highest rated fighters :deal

Golovkin vs Mundine was rumored in late march or something and the purse bid was when 3rd may? Mundine was already planing his recent 154lbs fight long before the purse bid occured.
    He just wasted Golovkins time.
Golovkin is a huge talent and it would be a disgrace to see him forced into retirement until someone who is willing to fight him shows up. Look at WBA-Cruiser beltholder Guillermo Jones despite pursebids he has never got a fight done for two years. Neither Golovkin nor N´Dam is yet a draw and if the purse bid outcome hadnt suited N´Dam he may would have refused that fight too in the end and just had added another chapter to that never ending story

Thats basically what will happen however two fights felt appart so Golovkin has to be allowed to do fight at least in the meantime. that doesnt change the fact that Nunez is far away from beeing an credible opponent and that interim rip off belt is a joke too..

This % split bull**** is a big part of the cancer that plagues current day boxing.

In the 'good old days' you often had to travel overseas, and for little reward, for the privledge of challenging for a title. Once you had the title it was your chance to ride the gravy train.

Sounds a bit tough on guys that never managed to win a title, but the upside was it was ALL ABOUT THE TITLE and not ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

These days guys are so caught up haggling about who's more bloody important, and therefore who should in their little minds be getting a bigger slice of the pie, that they forget that BOXING'S ACTUALLY A SPORT and that the glory and the legacy is in THE TITLE!

Mundine wanted nothing of Golovkin, but at least he admitted as much in an interview, that it was too high risk, low reward, which is fair enough.

Golovkin wouldve had an easy time dispatching Mundine.

Golovkin taken care of Dirrell in the Ams and has shown enough to
send Strum and Mundine ducking and dodging.

Agreed regarding Mundine's later statement regarding risk and reward, but it seemed a rediculous waste of time and effort that the bid process went ahead when plainly there was never going to be a fight.

Trout vs Ishida for the WBA Jnr Middle interim title now...What a crock (ha).

So does this mean that Choc will be gunning for the regular interim WBA Jnr middleweight title to become Mr 4 time, the pioneer?

The rankings of some of the guys getting title shots, even though mostly interim, is way beyond hilarious.

It allows low ambition, fringe dwellers the opportunity to bide their time and pick off a cheap feed when one presents itself - and these days it's pretty regularly.

We'll soon have guys getting around with 10 interim titles to their name, never a 'real' one, and never beaten anyone!
