Neither of them have great resumes IMO. And quite frankly, I don't really care. The whole argument is asinine to me, I made the post to give some ammo to the GGG fans, and to annoy Dino.:stirrpot:sisi1

There are years in the 90s where none of GGG's opponents would have been ranked in the top 10. Not saying Hopkins fought a murderers row, but in my opinion his opposition overall was more capable.

Golovkin is doing well, he has some good fights coming up. Hope he gets to fight 4 or 5 times a year, time is wasting. We must enjoy him while he is still fighting, I fear he will retire sooner than we want..............

Half of them weren't ranked in the top ten in his own era.

There are similarities between the two men in the sense that both were hard men known for being gym rats and always in shape. Both are considered “throw back” fighters. Neither man has ducked anybody. Both have done the middleweight division proud.
Like other long reigning, dominant champs neither man has a great resume in terms of great challengers. Trying to determine who has fought the better men is like trying to pick fly **** out of pepper.
Hopkins has had higher highs and lower lows. His greatest win came on the biggest stage against an icon who was favored to beat him: Madison Square Garden, right after 9/11 against Felix Trinidad. Hopkins put on a definitive master class. GGG has no such statement against such an opponent. However, the fact Bernard was already a titlist deep into his run at the time and was considered the underdog reveals that he wasn’t really seen as being all that. Golovkin, on the other hand, has never been considered an underdog. Even in Germany, and especially in the US after, he was feared to such an extent that other “champs” thought absolutely nothing of vacating their belts ( Sturm and Clenelo especially) and ducking. GGG has probably made just as much money in step aside fees as from actual fights. Bernard never had that affect on other fighters.

Bernard, at the height of his reign, was punked badly by RJJ
on the national spotlight. “Bernard, I already beat you. I left 160 so you could get a belt. 60 / 40 and I WHOOP YO’ ASS!”
Ol’ snagglepuss just stood there dumbfounded with nothing to say. Golovkin has never been beaten and damn sure never punked like that.
Hopkins was known for his old school skills, dirty tactics and faking and flopping if he thought it’d help him. He had no problems whatsoever stinking out the joint.
Golovkin has simply destroyed opponents. And even as he’s aged he still has the assassin mentality.
Hopkins has had the slightly better reign at this point but nobody was sad when Taylor finally beat him.
I’d much rather watch Gennady fight than Hopkins, but neither man was/is a PPV draw.

They both had weak opposition during their reigns. Golovkins reign was emphatic with all the KOs. But still relatively weak competition.

They both fought a lot of no hopers. And Hopkins fought two little guys.

That's the bottom line. If anybody comes in here and tries to say these guys fought great opposition then that's just not true.

Now I would say that Jacob's probably beats anybody H2H on Hopkins reign. But that's just 1 win. And it's not even a historically great win anyways.

They just dont have great reigns. Long yes, but not a great reign. Period.

It's a fair point with Canelo. My point with him is he was more of a true Middleweight than Tito. He was bigger and made his name at Light Middleweight. He then surpassed MW and went to SMW. Most people viewed Canelo as a MW even with the catchweights.

Maybe I'm biased, but I never viewed Canelo as the "smaller guy moving up" to fight Golovkin. He probably outweighs Golovkin and was a massive weight cutter. He was entering his LMW fights at 174.

Tito was a stud, but once again, he ad 1 MW fight before Hopkins. It was an impressive one, but my response was to people trying to claim Tito as some solidified, accomplished MW. That he was not.

 The same Quillen that people here said GGG was ducking, a few years ago?
