Segundo Mercado is about the equivalent of Makoto Fujigami. Golovkin didn't need 2 tries to beat him. 3 rounds were enough.

Mercado was 18-2 when Hopkins fought him. What was Ouma's record when Golovkin fought him? Loser of four out of his previous six, if I recall, and not even a middleweight. What about Rubio? A better version of Rubio was destroyed in significantly quicker and more devastating fashion at 154 by Kofi Jantuah, then what Golovkin was able to do at middle. Golovkin is quite a bit over rated, and lucky that Pirog's back stopped the exposure of Golovkin from happening.

 

In an extremely weak middleweight division they were, but those are four guys who wouldn't have been one of the ten best middleweights most years in the 90s. That is a fact.
