:good great post. Mack needs to hit hard and be smart in this one. if he doesn't, GGG will break him up.
Berto/Karass and Geale/Barker should also be pretty good while they last, though the former isn't really all that significant in the grand scheme of things.
In my book Macklin has capability to upset Golovkin. He is the #1 ranked British Middleweight in the World as the same level as Martin Murray and he almost beat Sergio Martinez a top 5 ranked PFP fighter in the World.
This is mereley another notch on the belt for GGG.The Brit will take a knee in 7 or 8 rounds.Don't make it more than it is,Golovkin is no Sturm or an aged Sergio.
Macklin has the ability to stand and trade bombs with Golovkin actually. Macklin was doing great until he was KO'd my Martinez. Macklin almost beat a top PFP ranked fighter in the World and is probably the best British Middleweight in the World.
Macklin was robbed contoversial SD vs Sturm in Germany. Macklin can box or punch, he is a complete World level fighter. He is the biggest test for the unproven Golovkin. I think Macklin has too much experience. If he can almost beat Sergio Martinez and be so problematic & troublesome for a top 5 PFP fighter in all of boxing that tells me he can beat Golovkin
I think that Macklin being a capable pressure fighter helps in terms of styles. To me Golovkin is a tremendous boxer-puncher and is at his best when his opponent is moving back or laterally. But Macklin doesn't have the defensive skill or power to trouble GGG, in my opinion, so I think he'll be just a stationary target for the most part. He's very durable though, so we will see. I've thought since it was signed either a late round stoppage or a UD for Golovkin, but as it approaches I almost see it as an early-mid stoppage, likely from the corner or from a knee.
No it's not. This is his prize scalp by a country mile. Ishida, Ouma, Proksa, Simon, Boudhala, Fuchigama, etc. none of those guys are as good/proven/rated as Macklin is.
It's undeniably his biggest scalp, but that's to be expected- you win fights, you get bigger fights. Proksa, despite Kerry 1, was considered a decent prospect, hovering around the MW top 10, of course, but it's as much the manner in which Golovkin wins that gets attention. I think few people can see Mack winning because it's hard to see just how he can win. He doesn't have the speed and movement of a Sergio or the strength and chin of a CCJ. Mack's a good solid all round boxer, but without any stand out quality that could somehow be capitalised on and leveraged to beat GGG. Whatever style Mack adopts, GGG will figure it out in the first coupla rounds, then proceed to put a thorough beating on Mack. I can't see it any other way. GGGs greater challenge is to try and live up to the extreme hype around him. It is important that in trying to provide a dominant win and early stoppage he doesn't let it hang out too far. I believe he is too methodical and patient to fall into this error, but it's one way he could end up looking bad.
Golovkin gonna win this easily with KO, and on the undercard Brandon Gonzales gonna upset Tommy oosthuizen with ko in early rounds.
Yeah, looking forwards to Gonzales - Oosthuizen myself, I'm figuring on Oosthuizen, but don't really know either of them enough to make a proper call. Didn't figure Brandon for much of a banger though, if Gonzales takes it, I reckon it'd be on points - kids s'posed to have decent speed and skills.
