40 mil you say ? Well, imagine Golovkin would have demolished Canelo in that first fight: that would have cost him a fortune !! And wait: since they already have planned a third fight, for even more money, imagine he would have demolished Canelo in this rematch! Another fortune down the drain ! These 2 deserve each other: very, very, very ( and i mean very ) fortunate, both of them !!
GGG sold his belts. Pretty much took a dive for the paycheck. Knew he would be robbed so you can't complain after, you did it for the money. He could have gone after legacy fights with BJS and Jacobs / SD winner but instead cashed out
I am surprised that ppv numbers are available so quickly. I would like to know the source for this also.
I saw some figures online http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/...final-offer-gennady-golovkin-possible-rematch Based on the 95 million in PPV, plus the bars and theaters, 24 million live gate, international sales, 57.5-42.5 split, looks very likely GGG made that fortay mil
I'm so glad Ward retired, his style was so ugly and borderline cheating. Ward could never make a beautiful boxing match like GGG Canelo just did.
Oh, this was before the actual payperview wasnt it? Did they succeed in attracting desired viewers and payperview numbers? I really hope Golovkin made 40 million, as that would be phenomenal for a Kazakh fighting in America.
Canelo is very generous. He gave Cotto his highest payday too. I wish more fighters were like Canelo.
