We all know that Martinez is an old semi-shot fighter and a fight between Martinez and 3G is more like passing the torch. Probably a fight between a 2010-2011 Martinez vs a nowadays GGG would be a hell of a fight.

Now, Sergio's promoter says that he's looking after the big names for Sergio and he succeeded to deal a fight with a big draw i.e Cotto but Cotto is a free agent and he isn't under a contract with a big network cable like HBO/SHO. So after this fight will end and lets say Martinez will win it and look good, then against what big name he'll fight next ? :think

Floyd, Canelo and Quillin are SHO/GBP fighters, so how the hell a fight between any of these 3 fighters vs Martinez will happen ? :think

What I think is besides GGG and lets say Sturm, Sergio hasn't 2 many good options @ MW division, only if he wants to move up @ 168 and fight Ward which I think it won't happen.

since when has sturm fought a top MW?
he has no interest in finding out how good he is, he just wants to defend a paper belt in Germany and get rich. and he's not alone over there

I think Sergio, if his body doesn't snap in two during the cotto fight (or training for it...), will go where the money is after that

I'm just saying Sturm is a good name and probably he'd be tempted to fight Sergio (especially now when Sergio is almost shot) if HBO puts enough $ for this fight.

true, but if there's one fighter who doesn't deserve a shot at Martinez, its sturm

If Martinez beats Cotto next he's most likely going for GGG on a PPV as his very last fight. There aren't any other options for him to consider besides GGG.

Please don't even mention Sturm as an option to anyone. If Sturm proved anything in his career, he proved he's a joke. The guy had the likes of Abraham, Taylor, Pavlik, Hopkins, GGG, Martinez, Miranda, Wright, Ikeke, Chavez Jr. and countless other names come and go since 2005 without even attempting to make a fight with any of them. Has he done anything major and worth tuning in for since his fight with DLH?

    spot on
sturm only fought Oscar for the same reason he always fought b-graders in Germany. a good payday
sadly, guys like ottke set a precedent over there

Calm down people ! I also agree that Sturm is coward who is looking after good payday-less-risky fights in Germany. Boxing its just a business and sadly Sturm has a good profile. Thats why I've mentioned his name !

    Retiring Barker for example...
Plus he arguably also looked better against the remaining common opposition than Sergio (Macklin, Murray).
Thing is he can make good money fighting 2nd tier-guys in Germany. Nobody cares about the b-side here unless it is another German.

he only has a 'profile' in the MW division now because nobody outside of Martinez and golovkin do
but the casual fan over here wouldn't know the difference between him and a bar of soap

who knew who barker was before he fought geale?
no disrespect intended, but if barker had made half a name at MW, sturm wouldn't have gone near him

sturm didn't even fight Abraham...two fighters fighting in the same weight divison, in the same country, and milking the same b-graders!

    and here's the punch line...

GGG was even signed under the same promotional company as sturm for a while, but guess who he didn't fight?

EDIT : and they call sturm "mister boxing" in Germany
    how embarrassing

Well the casual german fan doesn't even know that Sergio Martinez exists...
Robert Stieglitz and Marco Huck are much more popular in Germany than Mayweather or Pacquiao ffs.
Boxing without "german" participation (and as far as we are concerned, the Klits are german too) gets no coverage, simple as that.
Sturm can make good money fighting at home and avoiding tough competition, he doesn't need Martinez just like Martinez doesn't need him.

and fighters like sturm rely on exactly what you've just said - the casual fan not knowing any different
but holding hostage a paper belt and taking advantage of german fans doesn't make him a world champion in any way, shape or form does it?

isolating belts in Germany and doing nothing to get an international profile doesn't suddenly make a paper belt legit, but it does guarantee that they are never on the map outside of Germany so as to attract the real players

I appreciate your honesty, but you're almost defending Germany's right to 'put the sport in a bubble' and worship local heroes as if they were as good as pac and Floyd

edit : its not just Germany of course, but Germany are possibly the worst at doing this

Sturm had to go near Barker to regain a strap, otherwise his tv-deal wouldn't have been renewed.
Now that he has the title you can bet your ass on him milking it to the death Vs undeserving challengers, same chit different day.

You don't have to like it and you don't have to put him in your p4p-top10, but moneywise Adnan is doing very very well, and I fully understand his motivations.

As long as you have 4 or more mayor titles per weightclass Germany won't have a problem to promote some guy as THE CHAMPION and milk him fighting bums posing as world-contenders as soon as he somehow gets a hold on the strap.

    Stieglitz? same chit!
