Golovkin moves to 168 to face Oosthuizen

I hope Tommy guns GG down just for taking this stupid fight.

 

Not a chance, Golovkin will **** him severely. Doesn't matter about size in a fight like this, Golovkin is leagues above him. Golovkin is the type of guy that would manhandle bigger guys in sparring, Tommy has nothing to hurt him with. All Tommy can do is try and move around the ring and use his height but that can be a bad idea against a stalker.

 

I agree Golovkin should have no need to move to 168 though. He is too small in general for this weight category, he's barely average at 160. The top 168lb'ers more or less look like light heavyweights that are very good at cutting, maybe Froch aside who somehow manages to look big without putting much effort into making weight. So to be fighting as essentially a medium sized middleweight at 168 is very, very difficult and more of an extraordinary jump in weight class than most others except for cruiser > heavy.

 

But what's the point of this fight? Oost is an unknown and I don't see why this helps him. He should be building for a showdown with Martinez. If he's stepping up, at least fight someone recognizable. Pavlik, Macklin, Lee or Pirog would be better opponents imo.

 

He is not moving to 168lb at all he will be fighting a catchweight and has no intention of moving up. He has just been named WBA champion ffs.

 

Not good makes me laugh all the middleweights just know.. Surely if he gets in mandatory positions in the ranks they have to face him or they get stripped for there belts? Just putting it out there i havent really followed Golovikin but heard he's a beast at the weight..

Why? So much left to do at MW hope it isn't a permanent move.

 

I'd guess he's taking this fight because he has no choice. No top middle has shown they're willing to face him (except Proksa, and it's debatable as to weather he was a top middle) as he's the classic danger man who brings deadly threat but no money to the table. Possibly the thinking is that highlight reels of a 5"10 midget chopping down a 6"4 giant will make him more marketable. Or it could just make most super middles equally wary to face him?

 

I agree. Possibly not for the same reasons but I agree nonetheless!

Funny you should say that actually, there was an article floating around before the Proksa fight where they spoke with his sparring partners. No-one below 175 lbs will even spar with him & he's even hurting those guys as well. His "gym rep" is being compared to that of Valero back in the day

 

The huge difference is that GGG has unbelievable credentials and a ton more in his locker than the the predictable Abraham.

 

I want to see him at 160 but if he believes he can't get a fight then sometimes you got to make your own luck.

Not that hard to believe, you wouldn't exactly be jumping at the opportunity to fight him. There ain't millions in it, and I think word has got round from gyms and the obvious stuff we've seen in fights that GG is a real force.

 

It's too easy to duck the best fighters these days.

Even with a title, you can ***** out and bag a title fight anyway.... make the same money. Not get your head taken off.

 

Fighting for a title and headlining HBO. That's an enormous opportunity. Why wouldn't someone want that fight? I don't think the other guys are scared of him. Boxers always fancy their chances even when they have no right to!
