Why? Because it was on twitter, Lara's with Al Haymon and on Showtime, doesn't have a title at 160. It's equivalent to saying GGG ducks a willing to fight 154 pounder Vanes. If Lara was that serious about that fight he would have come to any of GGG fights/press-conferences and make a "Canelo move" by making himself visible and loud.

    You can't be that stupid.

Golovkin is a very good MW - clearly significantly better than anyone else in the division right now, but therein lies the problem... without anyone else of proven ability to test him there will always remain questionmarks as to his ceiling.

Fighting (and beating) Ward would be a significant marker, and would suggest he's more than just the biggest fish in a small pool but WRT ATG status or even ATG MW status, the opposition simply isn't there for Golovkin to make that kind of mark even if he has the talent to reach such lofty heights.

In the same way that the Klitschkos will aways have a legacy slightly (and rightly) questioned due to a lack of standout opposition, Golovkin, with only 4 or 5 years left of his career is likely to retire before the emergence of any opponent who could really seal him as one of the true greats.

Oh.. and I'm also huge fan of the guy.

Sad to say, but Golovkins resume over the last coupla years represents a pretty solid selection, in fact he's consistently fought about the best available - the fact that it ain't an impressive list is an indictment of the state of the division rather than the ability of the fighter.

However, Golovkin is finally in a position where he has a good chance to add at least one more belt to his collection in 2015, but I'll be disappointed if he doesn't then move up since his dominance at 160 is becoming a little farcical.

Obviously no fault of his own (in fact quite the opposite) but when he's so clearly so superior to any potential adversary at MW the fights do lose much of their interest.

at 168 he ALREADY has the same problems by struggling to get Froch and Chavez into the ring. Ward is retired, and who's left? Maybe only Andre Dirrell, Ramirez. But I am more than sure that Groves, Anthony Dirrell, Abraham will do their best to avoid GGG.

He sits somewhere outside the top 20 MW's ever and you'd have to be an idiot to disagree.

Wake me up when he beats his second or third top 5 opponent, please.

Worst thread of 2015, I reckon this one....

    This.

Size is the only thing that he lack in SMW, everything else is in place.

IMO number of defenses and his domination will give him a place in MW ATG list. He will get his rivalry when he goes up, out of his natural weight class.

Middleweight is always a strong division because it has a lot of active fighters competing in it. The law of averages dictates how strong a division is. Math doesn't lie.

Middleweight has about 25% more active fighters than Super middleweight, so you have a lot bigger pool of talent to pull from.

Boxing is a lot of hype, and one big popularity contest. Golovkin has wiped the floor with some of the top names in his division, he crushes their hype and popularity to the point they lose all their credit.

Ward is an equally talented fighter, but he didn't crush his competitors in the same fashion, when they lost, they kept some dignity and popularity. Had Kessler, and Froch been derailed by getting totally blown away, we would have forgotten about them and we would be talking about how Ward needs a true test.

Just because you haven't seen Golovkin in a real struggle, doesn't mean his division is weak, it just means he is making them all look bad.

Golovkin will clean out the mw division. Lee, Lemieux and Hassan are next in line to get a beating.

Petra Quilliana, Miguelita and Saulita should man up and fight the mw king aka GGG.:yep:deal

KT turned pro at a much earlier time than GGG. Just after winning world championships. His overall record is 270 bouts for 259 wins. a not significantly different record as an amateur. In the pros looked very similar beating everyone with power until someone doesn't fall over when they are meant too. Could be that he is that good but imagine a guy like Hagler who would be near impossible to hurt. that would be the true test can he outbox someone like that. Until they are in fight like that with an ATG it is impossible to put them too high up. His biggest problem is getting a big fight like that.
