It’s pretty close tbh, the difference is GGG never got an official win from Canelo. Bivol is a beast but a 40 year old Beterbiev doesn’t make his resume miles better than GGG. I do give him the slight edge though.

Bivol arguably beat Beterbiev twice. Most acknowledge GGG beat Canelo in fight 1 but fight 2 was a legit draw...fight 3 shouldnt have happened either.

Nonetheless, Bivol has beaten everyone he's fought without any controversy. Bivol has offered to fight at 168 or 175 and never demanded catchweights (GGG to Ward), etc.

    I think it's very close.

Much of it comes down to whether you rate an aging Beterbiev higher than the Canelo GGG battled at 160, assuming of course you believe that GGG beat Ginger in the first fight (I do).

Let it be known that Crawford weighed 0.2 ounces less for his 154 debut, his 4th weight class, than career 160 GGG's average fight night weight

And career 175 Bivol weighed 13lbs less against Clenelo than 168 pounder Benavidez weighed for his second official fight at 175

GGG was often the smaller man and Bivol very often has been too

My people, the Eurasian brotherhood, are just built different

We share the distinction, along with the Brits, of being the ultimate warriors

GGG has been blessed with that Asian chi-force Bruce Lee shocking power/Soviet bear strength and nuclear holocaust power

Bivol has been blessed with that Asian hawk-eagle vision and snake speed and precision/Soviet bear strength and stoicism

Neither has ever been knocked down. We the Eurasian people believe the only part of a warrior's body that should come in contact with the canvas is the soles of their feet :deal:

Official resume its gotta be Bivol but I do think Golvokin was a better fighter than Bivol or Beterbiev

Even if you give him that win. Zurdo is about to fight for undisputed st CW at some point this year or next, Beterbiev is either the 1st or 2nd best LW of this era and let’s not forget Bivol’s 9-3/10-2 domination of Canelo moving up just like he did when he faced GGG. I like GGG but this is not close imo especially when you factor is b level wins also.

Bivols win over Canelo was much more dominating than the GGG win over Saul in the first fight, and that was GGG's most famous fight.

    So Bivol easily.

But which was the better version of Canelo, Canelo from GGG 1 or Canelo vs Bivol. Against Bivol Canelo not only was out of his weight but he was suffering from a broken hand which limited his training. While Canelo would have carried more power against Bivol, his foot speed and elusiveness was nowhere near where it was when he fought GGG the first time. Against GGG in their first fight, Canelo contested more rounds, he kept more rounds close, against Bivol he lost 7 rounds pretty clearly, while the other 5 were close however you scored them. Against GGG, Canelo wasn't dominated in any round to the extent Bivol did in some of the middle rounds, and that had a lot to do with Canelo gassing. Canelo didn't gas as hard against GGG the first time he was in much better condition. While Canelo wasn't as heavy handed against GGG the first time (he was moreso in the rematch) he was clearly harder for GGG to outbox that night than the version of Canelo Bivol beat.

If you're basing who has a better resume based solely on how much better Canelo did against GGG than against Bivol, then you also need to consider how much better Canelo was when he fought GGG the 1st time. In my mind they sort of offset each other and when it comes to resume I think it's more about who you fought and how you perform in that fight. And GGG performed very well against Canelo, not enough to win, but certainly not in a way that should negatively affect his resume. Now if we're talking accomplishments, sure he didn't become Lineal, but he also didn't lose his belt, it was a successful defense as it was for Bivol. I just think that GGG has proved himself over a much longer period of time than Bivol, 20 more fights should matter. And sure most of GGG's opponents were more B or C level until he fought Jacobs and Canelo, but he still won all those fights by KO something Bivol didn't do. I just think that many more KOs and a record setting amount of title defenses is comparable to Bivol's accomplishments.
