Nope, there I disagree with you. Canelo landed the harder punches in #1. Golovkin landed the harder punches in #2. He had Canelo rocked at one point and momentarily stunned at another. That's why I feel Golovkin won the second fight more clearly than the first. In the first there were some (coughshadowcough) who made an argument for Canelo based off the quality of his best hits. In #2 GGG had the best hits.
But the difference is Canelo was the one on the backfoot laying on the ropes in the 1st fight, and Golovkin totally controlled the fight from the middle rounds on. Canelo in the 2nd fight was the aggressor and was landing the power punches, where as Golovkin's offence was primarily was his jab which was very effective, but obviously the judges preferred the effective aggression of Canelo. For the sake of this thread i'll show you my scorecards for each fight, funnily enough i think Canelo did the best in the 3rd fight but i still had it a draw based on Golovkin winning later rounds. Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez 1 1 Canelo 2 Canelo 3 Canelo 4 Golovkin 5 Golovkin 6 Golovkin 7 Golovkin 8 Golovkin 9 Canelo 10 Golovkin 11 Golovkin 12 Canelo 115-113 Golovkin Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez 2 1 Golovkin 2 Canelo 3 Canelo 4 Golovkin 5 Canelo 6 Canelo 7 Canelo 8 Golovkin 9 Golovkin 10 Golovkin 11 Golovkin 12 Canelo 114-114 Draw Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3 1 Golovkin 2 Canelo 3 Canelo 4 Canelo 5 Canelo 6 Canelo 7 Canelo 8 Golovkin 9 Golovkin 10 Golovkin 11 Golovkin 12 Golovkin 114-114 Draw Maybe i should watch 3 again as most seem to think Canelo won fairly comfortably, but for me Canelo totally faded down the stretch after winning most of the early rounds. And Golovkin for me swept the late rounds to make it a draw, although there were a close swing rounds that maybe Canelo could of got late on.
What do you think? What i think is on fight night, i was very disappointed in Golovkins lack of fire early, but had Golovkin edging round one then winning the last four. Some other rounds were close as well, rounds 6 and 8. Its not at all popular to say so, but i would say yes. Although the media, Dazn, say Canelo won big, watching it slowed down on dvd you can actually see what is landing and with what kind of force, and GGG landed some heavy head jarring shots, but Canelo has that Rock head, bull neck, and a poker face to kind of disguise it.
I posted each of my scores just now i had the 3rd fight a draw, for me Canelo totally faded down the stretch in the 2nd half.
I don't think GGG has any more an argument for a draw in 3 than Canelo did in 1, even less so probably, either way, the winner of both was clear in my eyes and the vast majority of media and fan scorecards back my eyes up. I scored 2 - 115-113 GGG, but there were a lot of close rounds and the same score in favour of Canelo is completely fine. 1-1-1 isn't how I scored the trilogy and of course fights are rightly scored on an individual basis, but it probably would have been the fairest and most accurate reflection of the balance of the trilogy as a whole.
I made sure for this fight to have it on dvd to slow it down at my leisure, and a draw isn't far fetched, but it didnt feel like a draw on fight night especially with that biased comentators. Alot of Canelo's body shot were low or on the hip or back, should that count? I've learned to appreciate what GGG did in that fight, and it wasn't an easy fight for Canelo.Another thing,Golovkin seemed bigger and stronger than Canelo in that fight. They were both very strong.
GGG VS Canelo 1 was a draw because of the following statistics that you conveniently ignored. Power punches and connect % landed by Canelo- 114 @ 41% Golovkin- 110 @ 32% Total punches thrown Golovkin- 218 / 703 Connect rate 31%. 485 punches missed The judges look at effective aggression. GGG failed there as you see from the amount of punches he missed. Hence why Canelo was never hurt. Clean effective shots. . Thats power punches. Canelo outlanded Golovkin in that category in all 3 fights. The gap was widest in fight #2 Canelo outlanded GGG on power punch count 143 - 116. . 39% connect rate to Golovkins 34% Canelo outlanded GGG in power punches in 9 rounds / 12
You can outland your opponent despite throwing fewer punches than them You can outland your opponent when you've thrown more punches than them You can also outland them if you've thrown the same amount of punches as them But it's very rare for a fighter to outland their opponent if their opponent has landed more punches than them This content is protected
GGG landed more & was more active. Canelo landed the more accurate & eye-catching punches. Although, GGG did snap Canelo's head back a lot with his jab (especially in the 2nd fight). Fight 1 was Golovkin's. Fight 2 was a pick'em (although I think GGG edged it). Fight 3 was Canelo's.
Is that Steve Rolls? Yep, no matter how you slice it, the Red head got outlanded clearly, but the Red head always gets the knod.
Canelo was way better defensively than GGG.He outlanded Golovokin in most of the fight.. He lost their first two fights tho.. This content is protected
