Almost too good to be true!
Too bad it is not Sturm-Golovkin and Pirog-Geale as I suspect both Sturm and Geale to be a bit soft compared to their Ring ranking - but OK.

Remember Bute? Protected fighter that got a historic ass-whopping when trying a real fighter (Froch). The same could potentially happen to Golovkin, but I doubt it. GGG is the real deal and taking out Pirog will prove it to the world. This will enable the winner to potentially challenge Chavez Jr or Martinez. Pirog should however be able to rise in the standings even with a defeat as his performance will most likely be very good..

Sturm-Geale? A tossup. Could be a good fight if either of them really wants it. Sturm-the-weasel will probably try to capture the IBF title and vacate the WBO title in order to avoid Golovkin. Geale probably took him to the cleaner regarding who gets the most money for the fight as Sturm's options are probably much more limited than his.

Fantastic that they got HBO to air it!

Finally! Golovkin will knock Pirog the **** out. Winner takes on the winner of Chavez Jr vs Martinez. I really hope that's how it plays out. Some epic fights if all goes well.

The rumored site for Geale-Pirog on the 25th was somewhere in Washington state. I think this fight is going to be a tough sell anywhere, but New York made a lot of sense to me strictly for demographic reasons (though the cost of putting fights on there might undermine that).

hm, wonder why washingon state? ny makes sense; not MSG, but one of the smaller venues. . . Also, boardwalk hall, or somewhere in New Jersey. . .

Even Vegas would be ok - everybody in vegas looks a good tearup even if they;re not real boxing fans.

Well Shaw would have been the primary promoter for that originally planned card since he promotes Geale and co-promotes Dzinziruk and Trout. And they don't call him Gary "Site Fees" Shaw for nothing.

Very good fight. Been waiting for something like this in a long while for the middleweight division, some great matchups to be made there.
