Ring Magazine has it in this order Alvarez 49-1-2 Golovkin 38-0-1 Jacobs 34-2 Saunders 26-0 Sergiy derevyyanchenko 12-0 Jermal Charlo 27-0 Ruota Murata 14-1 Demetriius Andrade 25-0 Lemieux 38-4 N'dam 36-2 ***I eliminated Sullivan 32-2 to equal top 10 vs top 10*** Ring Magazine in 1992--CHECK THIS OUT!!!!! Jackson 44-1 Toney 31-0-2 McCallum 43-1-1 Kalambay 53-5-1 Jones Jr 17-0 Reggie Johnson 31-2-1 Lamar Parks 21-0 G McCellan 25-2 Hopkins 18-1 Collins 21-2 If we go by rankings 1 thru 10, then the fights you predict would be: Canelo Alvarez vs Julian Jackson Gennady Golovkin vs James Toney Daniel Jacobs vs MCallum B Saunders vs Kalambay Segiy D vs Roy Jones J Charlo vs R. Johnson R. Murata vs L. Parks Andrade vs G McCellan Lemieux vs Bernard Hopkins N'Dam vs Collins
Canelo Alvarez vs Julian Jackson (JJ not known for a good chin, I think he gets dropped, but drops Alaverez too. Alvarez gets gift Draw.) Gennady Golovkin vs James Toney (FOTY, Toney takes to give, but his skill level ekes out a close SD which should've been a UD) Daniel Jacobs vs MCallum Another FOTY candidate. Jacobs proves he'll go out on his shield, takes early rounds but the bodyshots slow him down, Mike wins last 4 rounds gets a UD, both fighters get dropped) B Saunders vs Kalambay (Kalambay starts off a step ahead and Saunder never catches up loses every round close, score cards are a route and don't reflect how competitive the bout was) Segiy D vs Roy Jones RJJ toys with him and stops him in 9 J Charlo vs R. Johnson ( damn I'm not sure...Charlo has the tools to win this...I'm guessing..Charlo wins MD) R. Murata vs L. Parks Not sure tossup Andrade vs G McCellan Andrade's D keeps fight at slow pace, Gman finds range. takes a lot of jabs but drops Andrade twice, gives him a SD win. Lemieux vs Bernard Hopkins Hop takes Lemiex shots seemingly with ease, his footwork befuddles him his clinching frustrates him , his head butt cuts him..the doctor calls a halt to fight due to cuts from fists and head) N'Dam vs Collins Not sure toss up, I'll say a draw
Sad how few fights went down between the 92 crew. Jones, Gman, Hopkins, Jackson, and Toney...and the only 160 fights we saw between them were Gman - Jackson and Roy-Hopkins when both were green. What's the point of a stacked division if the fights can't get made?
The Ring WAS the Bible of Boxing it was THE boxing mag. Today since Oscar took it over & decimated it its the laughing stock of boxing
Canelo stops Jackson Toney wins a close decision over current GGG Jacobs and McCallum at 160 is pretty even Kalambay beats Sanders by decision Jones wins I think Charlo would break Johnson down but it's not out of the question that Reggie would outslick him Haven't watched enough Parks or Murata McClellan at this point but not a sure thing. Andrade is unproven at 160. Hopkins beats the snot out of Lemieux Collins wins. N'Dam is basically finished.
Interesting point. But I kinda defend them. 1. We know Jones Jr didnt stay at MW for long. He did fight 4 a title early in his career at 21-0, but that was 1993. 2. By 94', he was pretty much SMW. 3. Julian Jackson by 1992 had been fighting for 11 years -his best IMO was Jr. Middle. James Toney cheeseburger eatin azz kept ballooning several divisions out his class, trying to lose 30 + pounds to fight as SMW. In other words, we know they weren't catchweight haggling, I think 1992 was a year of passing the torch from veterans like McCallum and Jackson to Gman , Jones and Hopkins. So if we matched 2018 rookies, primed and vets...I say 1992 rookies (RJJ, BHOP) prime, JT, R. Johnson and vets JJ and McCallum mauls today's MWs
Toney, to his credit, was the most willing to make fights happen IMO. A lot of guys say they didn't care who they fought, but Toney at 160 really would take on whoever.
Toney golovkin peak for peak would be a great fight but Golovkin has already slipped 10%. Prime Toney beats past prime golovkin without too much difficulty. Toneys speed difference and higher punch counts exacerbates the age advantage. Jones and Hopkins win their fights incredibly easily. Jackson was slipping by 92 I believe so Canelo maybe drops him but eventually he gets iced. Close call. 92 class dominates
1992 Toney was given the world's biggest gift in his SD over Tiberi: This content is protected IIRC two judges were Santa Claus and Adelaide Byrd. Can you imagine if GGG looked like that against ultra-featherfist Dave Tiberi He'd be relegated to the garbage bin forever.
