    8500+ people vs 4152. :deal

(note: when Ward fought Abraham at Stubhub, attendance was 5311 which included lots of Abraham fans)

Golovkin now just needs the HBO viewing figures to match the interest generated by his first fight on the West Coast... then if Ward ends up back in the ring -he's not close to fighting anybody right now- and Golovkin-Ward is on the table, A-side will be Golovkin just like Cotto was to Martinez (lower ranking but bigger draw).

"But [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr., Andre Ward, Carl Froch. Bring me big fight." - ESPN's interview with GGG

    :hey

Of course this has nothing to do with the fact he's fighting a Mexican fighter in California.... right?

Rubio is not high enough on the Mexican fan pecking order to command drawing power. Do you figure Rubio vs random contender would draw the biggest live attendance @ Stubhub ever? I don't.

Yeah Golovkin is creating a lot of buzz. The fans (casual and non casual) have been waiting for an exciting fighter to be the next star and GGG seems to fit the role.

Of course it's impressive. But you are comparing him to a guy who can't draw flies to sh.t.

Golovkin is gaining fans due to his style. This makes him the draw and the A-side in a Ward fight. If I were Golovkin, I wouldn't fight Ward until I'm a much bigger draw and guaranteed A-side.

Fact is: Ward makes more money than GGG and has been doing better numbers on HBO.

    Last GGG fight did 758k

Last Ward fight did 1.1 million

Ward should be the A-Side in their negotiations.

How much does Ward make when he's not fighting? He's not fighting a whole lot these days.

seems everybody forget the donaire-walters fight which many considered as interesting as the main event. this fight might steal the limelight from the main event. also donaire grew up in cali.

    Ward can't draw flies.

Rubio-Golovkin will do great ratings. :good

Amazing how Golovkin comes to a new country and becomes a big star, while Ward has been too much of a coward to fight outside his home country.

Ward needs his home refs to let him get away with illegal tactics like clamping his opponents arms and deliberate head butts.

Isn't this the card with Donaire vs Walters too? Surely Donaire deserves some credit as he's from around that area too.

Anyway who cares? People on this sight act like they're the ones getting paid the way they talk about purse splits, ratings, gates and PPV's.

Fun fact: venue sold 7000+ tickets BEFORE Donaire-Walters was announced as co-feature. See ESPN & Ring articles. :think

Yeah the Donaire vs Walter fight will add to the numbers as well, while Ward's undercard was as showcase as it gets.

But still, Golovkin is becoming a huge star. Just look at the number of threads about the guy every day here.

    edit:
well, that blows that theory out of the water then
