Agreed. They'll try and keep those Slick White Slavic fighters off their Yank networks at all costs. Too many American viewers will not be able to compute with all the slick Whiteness they're witnessing which will lead to their brains malfunctioning. Repeat viewership will decline drastically with this happening... This content is protected It simply isn't a feasible business model
Sooooooooo......what you're saying is that IF Golovkin gets on HBO, I should invest in a CTS decon company? At the very least, GGG would make ME some money..........wooohooo!:happy
True. It is completely unrealistic. HBO (and Showtime too for that matter) wants one thing... Americans to win. When Froch is asked to fight in the US in order to "be a star in the US"... the real motivation is to feed him to Americans until someone beats him. Same with Bute, Kessler, Abraham, Pirog, Sturm etc. Golovkin would have to be invincible otherwise he will get no favors in the US. He will be fed to American fighters that present the worst stylistic matchups possible, and he will be down on the cards by 2-4 rounds from the get go. He can... still win, but it is fairly unrealistic.
Yes, exactly. Manny Pacquiao, JMM, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Adamek.......all great Americans. But seriously, I understand where you are coming from, but there are holes in that argument. They may cater to the US audience, but they'll follow the dollars, wherever they may lead, or originate.
Hatton. Sure... he was not build up and sacrificed... right :good There are two modes for foreignrs going to the US. 1. Sacrificed. 2. Built up and then sacrificed. PS. I agree with your dollar argument... It can explain a lot of the reason why it happens like this.
With Greenburg gone, HBO will probably be more likely to give Golovkin a chance. Eddie Hearn said Darren Barker and Pirog are in serious talks and that HBO is happy with the fight. HBO has to start setting up opponents for Martinez otherwise Martinez will continue to get low ratings because nobody knows who the hell his opponents are.
Something tells me HBO would have been alright without Hatton taking on Mayweather. They could have had him on the tit for as long as they could have(or viceversa). He was a major moneymaker in his own right. If he had beaten Floyd, or Pacquiao, we would be saying they were sacrificed to him. Their allegiance is to the money. Not the fighters. Martinez is an example. He KTFO Williams, and now HE is the show. He's fighting guys like Barker and Macklin, and Dz....... on HBO. Edit: The post above kind of threw a wrench into what I was saying, but it stands as is.
Nnnnnyeahh...... well... I think Martinez is the toighest cookie for Mayweather to crack. Therefore I dont wxpect that foght to happen. Therefore I expected Martinez to be sent off to some bigger division with promises if he won. That way the odds were stacked against him, and should he (against all odds) still win, he would have been shoved away so that he was not a threat to Mayweather. Noone wanted to meet Williams because of his freak physique... so of course he was sent Martinez' way. And so on.. Martinez has had in anything but easy. Now there is not much more they can send his way to make life tough for him. That would be a ridiculous division further up - or Mayweather... so he is just stuck there at 160 for now. The money holds true for a large part. The ones that are really protected are fighters with a large ethnic following in the US... Chavez junior, Jermain Taylor etc. The foreign fighters who make it (Martinez, Klitschoes) - make it despite...
The Klitchkos are clearly the top of the division, but the division is pretty much ignored by both HBO and Showtime. There's no money in it because the promise of entertaining fights are few and far between. At the moment. I'm not going to say that nationality has nothing to do with it, because that wouldn't be true. But only to the extent that they are catering to the US audience. If the US audience takes a shine to a guy you know damn well they will put him on the tube. They will put on whoever makes money for them. I've shown you a bunch of examples of guys who aren't american, yet are on HBO time and time again. Haven't even mentioned guys like Khan, Calzaghe, etc. And these are all recent examples. Martinez was a last minute replacement for Pavlik against PW, he wasn't sent to himsa. He seized the moment and hasn't looked back. After upsetting Pavlik and waxing PW, they are feeding guys to HIM now. As for eventually feeding him to someone else, that is entirely the point. They will. They'll do the same to Mayweather and Pacquiao when the time is right. They are running a business that dwarfs these fighters careers. As for Mayweather-Martinez.......I think the reason that fight doesn't happen is because Martinez is stopping guys at MW, he is fast and strong and big for a guy like Mayweather. How was Jermain Taylor protected?
He arguably lost to Spinks who was KTFO by Zab at 147 a couple fights before, Ouma JMW who Karmazin dominated, Winky who beat him and was robbed, then Pavlik destroys him. What a MW, entirely HBO manufactured.
Winky I agree, but he won some close fights, 2 over Hopkins as well. I can't say that necessarily amounts to being protected by HBO. Even so, Pacquiao, Hatton, Calzaghe, Khan all won close fights, can they be considered protected as well? Possibly, they probably do protect their investments.
He TKOd Bute the fight was stopped Bute was still unsteady in the dressing room after, that was with a head guard and Big Gloves, have a look at this.!!! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmcshgGP8YA[/ame]
