People bringing up degale like the guy didnt just become relevant to golovkin a whole month ago. If you want to call someone not in your weightclass relevant.
I think it's pretty clear at this point. Cotto, Canelo, Lemieux, and Kid Chocolate all don't want any of that. It's pretty sad when you beat someone before you even step in the ring.
Of course Canelo would fight him, DLH doesn't want to risk it though, it's a good idea because Golovkin isn't as big money as Cotto and is a colossal risk, Lara was bad enough but he did just enough against him, whilst commendable, Golovkin might knock his head off but it'd be fun whilst it lasts. Oscar is taking attention off that fight by proclaiming he may make a miraculous and suicidal comeback. After Cotto if he wins we'll see that one, Golovkin will only get more popular.
While it would be a good fight, I dont think theres any real pressure for Canelo to make the fight just yet. 154+1 for non-title is technically still super welterweight. They are still in different divisions, and unlike Cotto - Canelo is not calling himself the Middleweight champion of the world. Canelo cant "duck" GGG until and unless he beats Cotto and gains a 160lb strap. At that point the fight becomes relevant, until then its just a good s**** for TV.
Have you not seen how small rigo already is at his weight? You just expect fighters to cycle up through divisions until they reach guys big enough that they accept the fight? Dont be one of those fans that think every fighter should have to stretch themselves to their physical limits division wise to get big fights because guys their own size wont take the fight. Divisions exist for a reason... and that every fighter will always have a division north of them with bigger opponents looking to fight them doesn't mean they need to move up til they lose.
Agreed. I blame Arum for Rigo getting nowhere, he just trash talked him - and put him as headliner on cards where he wasnt even the main attraction. And made horrible matchmaking post Donaire to boot. He should have been build down in Miami and showcased in front of his own people on smaller cards, and hyped as the "masterclass" instead of put in Jersey on HBO cards vs the likes of Agbecko and trash talked by his own promoter for fighting the same way he always fights.
I don't think there's any doubt he's avoided like the plague. It's at times like this I hate the modern fight game. Back in time where there was only one champ per division and a 1 to 10 list of the challengers, although it went on to a certain degree ducking was far more difficult.
Yes, most definitely in the last 10-15 years. I certainly cannot remember in my time of being a hardcore fan (since 1997) any fighter being dodged by every single fighter in and around his weight class as much as GGG has been.
That guy also doesn't realize that GGG's team reached out to Lara's recently and never got a word back. It was on the Scene. People need to stop acting like Lara is calling GGG out in any meaningful way, he was just trying to up the press coverage leading to his last fight. DeGale has not said **** about GGG and Ward is too busy trying to decide if he wants to stay at 168 (face GGG) or move to 175 (face Kovalev). There is not a single meaningful opponent actually ready and willing to step in with GGG who has anything to offer, be it a "name" or a belt. As for the thread topic, Rigo would have to take the cake. No one wants to step in with that guy and be embarrassed, which is shame as he has one of the highest skill sets in the game.
