Then boxing was thriving, not anymore as you claime it's thriving??

I love boxing, but we should just be honest and stopd denying facts and living in this illusion where boxing is doing great..

Boxing is not doing good, have been on downfall for many years.

that fact doesn't make me less boxing fan..

i want boxing to thrive yes!!but it is not just the truth..

big reason is of course what you said, wide selection of different kind of entertaiment..and year after year boxing is becoming more smaller, the illusiom of these rare mega events leads many to believe boxing is doing great..but there is only couple of boxers on world who people know or care..thus leading that even less boxers will rise on the ranks in the future.. it's not rocket science..

but saying boxing is good etc.. is extremely bad thing to say,if you are supporter of this once great sport.

don't deny the truth..we had this year especially good because long awaited match ups.. the future does not look bright..and even many biggest E-E stars are declining or soon retired. We basically have Canelo anymore who can gain the interest of MEDIA. Who is btw the most important aspect to make boxing bigger again..

If you live in USA it's hard to even find boxing gyms,in Europe nobody cares about boxing,Only in Britain and Eastern Europe boxing is doing good. And even that could be argued..

but skip another 20yrs and if boxing goes same route it has been going. My bet boxing is even smaller than it was in 90's..but still people will claim boxing is not dead.because you get the occasional 2-4 events a year when media etc actualöy covers boxing for couple of days. Then it goes rest +300 days to complete sleep

Yeah, for sure it is not as big as it once was but there is a lot more competition for the entertainment dollar than there was 50-60 years ago. All the other sports make it tough on boxing but I still feel that it has carved out a nice niche. Never be #1 again, but I can live with where it is now. All we really need is a bad-a@@, charismatic american heavyweight ala Tyson and that would perk things up.

Not only that, but also I think G knew how hard it would be to land on Canelo's body and how it would leave himself open to get tagged with counter punches. If he leans in to try to land a body shot, he's putting himself right in punching range of Canelo's vicious counter punches. I don't like to pat myself on the back or anything, but this is one thing that I predicted, that G would have a difficult landing body punches on Canelo. Many G fans disagreed and assured me that he'd be able to land body shots on Canelo. In fairness, I think G was somewhat smart to not try to land body shots, because if he did he probably would have lost.

That's a fair point about being open to counter-punching, but I do think Golovkin was head hunting a bit too much. It just gets a little predictable when almost zero body shots are thrown. Also when Canelo was gassed that was probably the time to go to the body.

But yeah, landing body shots is easier said than done, Sanchez told Golovkin to do so in-between rounds but clearly GGG either disagreed, found it difficult to do, or both.

I think after round 4 in the corner Sanchez motioned for G to throw a body punch when Canelo is on the ropes, he didn't actually say body punch but he just motioned it, suggesting that Sanchez wasn't liking that Canelo was able to fight off the ropes and pick off G's punches so well in round 4.

G did oblige with that fight changing huge right hand behind that ear in the 5th, but he didn't actually throw the body punch to the stomach that Sanchez was motioning. I get the sense that Sanchez saw an opportunity for G to land a punch to the stomach between the guard when Canelo was on the ropes in the 4th. Maybe G just took that as being more aggressive when Canelo got to the ropes, and preferred to head hunt there with that looping well timed right hand as opposed to trying to get in a body punch like Sanchez may have been suggesting in the corner.

I mean lets be real KiwiMan, if I would have told you going into the fight that G would hardly throw or land a body shot in the bout, wouldn't score a knockdown, wouldn't ever have Canelo visibly hurt or in any real trouble, I think you'd be pretty sure G was going to lose a decision. So in that sense, you've got to feel pretty happy with the fact that the judges didn't truly do him dirty. I mean I understand the 118-110 bothering you, I get that, but I mean overall you've got to feel pretty happy that you had 2 other judges that could have scored that fight for Canelo, but didn't. It sounds like you wouldn't have expected G to walk out with his titles after a fight like that, with no knockdowns, no body punching from G, etc.

Good post, there's a lot of things I agree with here.

I can only imagine that either GGG was trying for a head KO or he was worried about the counter. He goes to the body so well, it doesn't make sense to me otherwise.

Well I'll say this , I've never seen GGG ignore body shots like that in any fight. And you would think a corner watching Gennady miss those head shots would say,,,hook to the body and then bring it to the head.. that's elementary boxing 101.

Finally someone said it! This is why GGG was skeptical of going to the body because the best weapon Canelo has is his counter punching abilities.

He was ask to attack the body but GGG was smart enough to know that Canelo was swinging for the KO with every FKN punch. We all know you leave yourself open up stairs when you go downstairs and maybe next time GGG might roll the dice after hearing that nightmare score of 118_110

I think his attitude after the fight says more than his performance.
