Why isn't Golovkin pushing to get his mandatory shot against Cotto?

Why hasn't he fought more top 10 category fighters in his weight class?

To be fair, that is reasonable.

That said, im not overly enamoured with the best MW on Earth calling out a past prime WW champion (btw, I am a fan of both, so I have no bias).

I guess all GGG has to do is drop to 147.... And wait for a year until it dawns on him that it is a fight that will never happen.

He already has that mandatory shot covered. The winner of Geale vs Cotto has to face him in September this year. We already know Cotto doesn't if he wins.
4 to 6 (depending on the list) top 10 fighters inside 3 years is significantly more as most beltholders have done. And that while some clearly ducked him (Sturm/Martinez/Quillin/N'Dam) and we already know one will (Cotto)

Golovkin should focus on fighting Canelo @ 160 and Ward @ 168 to establish his name.

Alvarez will most likely go for Cotto for the lineal championship and more money. Both their fights next should, in my opinion, lead up to that big fight. In the meantime, Golovkin can continue feasting on 80 to 1 underdogs while calling out Welterweights.

I don't mind him asking for the fight, it would be a life altering pay day. It's not like he's saying Floyd is scared of him or that he would whoop Floyd, he's just putting his name out there as an option to fight the man who everyone from 140-160 would sell a Kidney to fight. Let's also remember that Floyd is lineal at 154. I'm not one of the mugs who think he's a 'legit JMW' or some similar nonsense. But he does hold the title at 154 and so GGG is calling out a fighter 1 division below him as much as he is 2 divisions below him.

All that being said, the fight will never happen. If I was Floyd I would not make the fight, not because I think he's scared of GGG, but because I doubt he believes anyone knows who GGG is. He just did 5M PPV buys, what would this fight do?? 750K?

I'd be very interested in seeing.

Has MW ever commented or mentioned his name before? I can't think of any times he has. Has the network brought his name up to him on camera?

I'll add this as well to my previous post.

While I have no issue with GGG or any man campaigning for a career pay day by fighting Floyd I WILL be very disappointed in HBO if, after the Monroe fight, we see Kellerman ask GGG in the post fight interview about "the fight everyone wants to see with Floyd Mayweather" or something along those lines. At that point HBO is just trying to make Floyd look like a ducker and it's classless. I still wouldn't blame GGG for answering that question with a definitive yes though.

And if Floyd were to make the fight simply because he believes GGG is the toughest man he could face next (and he'd be quite right) then, win or lose, I'd move him up my ATG list just for taking on such a tremendous challenge at this stage in his career.

Oh and one other point. If the fight were somehow to be made, I wouldn't criticize GGG in the slightest for fighting a smaller Floyd. He would hold a significant size advantage, yes. But he'd still be making the 2nd most difficult fight available to him from 168 down (Ward of course being the other) against one of the only 2 men on the planet below 168 who I can see figuring out a way to beat him. I'd favor GGG over Floyd at 160 and 154, and I'd favor Ward over GGG at 168 because size matters between extremely good fighters. But Floyd at 154 or even 160 would be more of a challenge than any other man who could make those weights.

if the fight ever got made, they can market GGG as this all conquering, KO'ing machine and people will tune in thinking Floyd's gonna get his ass knocked out lol
