It's obvious he doesn't fight the way he does now the way he fought in that fight. That was what, his second fight with Abel? These same talking points you and others keep making are just ****ing stupid. I'm not overrating GGG, but goddamn, find some legit points to talk about already instead of rehashing the same ****.
Well, we'll see, won't we? All fighters have to go through these tribulations, so they ain't really excuses but were a response to a relevant assertion (ie that GGG musta had flu when fighting Ouma) and Gena still won by stoppage. Props to Stevens if he wins by the way, but I'd advise you not to bet on that outcome.
In boxing, there is NEVER a training camp where everything is perfect. You're sick, your wife is boning your best friend, your trainer is stealing from you, visa issues, sparring injuries, etc. You misunderstand, I LIKE GGG, I think he's a very good fighter (don't know if he's GREAT but few are) I think it would be nice if the middleweight champion of the world, actually, maybe, BEAT A MIDDLEWEIGHT before we put him in the hall of fame.
Incidentally, you do realise that the TS has already acknowledged that he got Stevens and Stevenson confused when he made that post doncha? Perhaps take the time to read the thread first in future.....atsch
And see post above^^. Like you say, camps are rarely ideal, there's always something, and it's probably more common than not for a fighter to come in at less than 100%, I was simply explaining the circumstances of the Ouma fight in response to an assertion (ie that GGG musta had 'flu then as well). It wasn't his best fight, but he gained the stoppage. Excuses aren't necessary, but I always like to broaden my knowledge, I assumed others did too. Just in case you mistake my level of fandom (if there's such a word) I don't consider GGG even close to HOF worthy yet, I merely see him as an exciting fighter whose limits are yet to be tested. My belief is that he is currently the best at MW and he may be able to compete with the elite at 168. We shall see, hopefully. It's the best and most challenging fights that I want to see for GGG, I want to see him tested to limits of his ability, win or lose, not to become an 'undefeated' champion without truly stretching himself.
